Exploring Supportive Music and Imagery as a Self-Care Resource: Experiences of Intensive Care Unit Nurses

국문 초록

중환자실 간호사는 특수한 업무 환경으로 인하여 대개 높은 수준의 스트레스를 경험하며, 이는 간호사 개인의 정신적, 신체적 건강은 물론 업무 수행에도 부정적인 영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 본 연구는 중환자실 간호사가 스트레스 관리를 위해 비대면으로 제공된 지지적 음악심상(SMI) 세션을 어떻게 경험했는지 질적으로 탐구하고자 하였다. SMI 프로그램에 비대면으로참여한 28명의 중환자실 간호사를 대상으로, 세션 및 일상 생활에서의 경험에 초점을 맞춰 반구조화된 인터뷰를 진행하여 질적 내용분석을 한 결과, 순차적으로 나타나는 세 가지 주요 주제모음이 도출되었다. 음악은 참가자들로 하여금 주의를 집중하고 긍정적인 정서적, 심리적 상태와 연결되도록 도와주었으며, 이는 개인적 자원에 접근할 수 있는 지지적 경험을 더욱 촉진하여 참가자들이 음악을 업무 및 일상 스트레스를 관리하는 자기 돌봄 자원으로 인식할 수 있게 했다. 본 연구 결과는 음악을 스트레스 관리를 위한 심리적 자원으로 활용하는 과정에 대한심층적인 통찰을 제공한다.

영문 초록

Nurses in the intensive care unit (ICU) are prone to high levels of occupational stress, which negatively impacts both their mental and physical health, as well as their work performance. Due to the highly demanding work environment and workload, sustainable stress management among ICU nurses has been emphasized in several studies. The current study aims to qualitatively explore how ICU nurses experienced music and imagery sessions for stress management. Twenty-eight ICU nurses who participated in an online supportive music and imagery (SMI) program were interviewed, focusing on experiences during sessions and daily life. Results from an inductive qualitative content analysis identified three main themes that emerged in chronological orders. The findings indicated that music initially facilitated participants direct their attention and connect with their positive emotional and psychological states, that further facilitated supportive experiences that enabled access to personal resources, allowing participants to recognize music as self-care resources to manage work-related and daily stress. The findings of this study provide in-depth insight into the process of using music as a psychological resource for stress management.
