국문 초록

유럽은 자본과 인적 자원의 공유, 시장 확대, 리스크 분산 등 다양한 이점을 제공한다는 점에서 할리우드 영화의 공세에 대항하여 자국 영화산업의 경쟁력을 유지하려는 방편으로 국제공동제작을 주목하였다. 이는 글로벌 영화산업에서 경제적 필요성에따른 전략적 선택이었다. 유럽의 영화제작자들은 국가 간 협력을 통해 대규모 자본을조달하였고, 다양한 문화적 요소를 결합하여 독창적이고 경쟁력 있는 콘텐츠를 생산함으로써 글로벌 영화시장에서의 입지를 강화했다. 한편 한국은 동남아시아 국가와 초국적 영화기구 창설을 논의하는 와중에 입지 강화와 경쟁력 유지 측면에서 국제공동제작을 강조하였다. 이러한 배경에서 국제공동제작에 관한 연구가 수행되고 있으나, 경제적 필요성과 문화적 교류 사이에서 아시아국가들과 어떤 모양새로 빗어지고 있는지의 형태 파악이 요원하다. 국제공동제작영화가 경제적 필요성과 문화적 교류 사이에서 어떻게 균형을 이루고 있는지에 대한 심층적인 이해가 필요하다. 국제공동제작영화의 양상을 파악하고 경제적 필요성과 문화적교류 사이에서의 균형을 이해함으로써 한국영화가 글로벌 영화시장에서 더욱 효과적인 전략을 수립할 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 국제공동제작영화를 다각도로 조망하기 위해 뉴스 빅데이터를 활용하여2004년부터 2024년까지의 국제공동제작영화의 변천 과정을 분석하고 그 함의를 도출하였다. 이를 통해 국내 국제공동제작영화에 대한 심층적인 이해를 제공하고 국제 관계의 변화와 흐름을 분석함으로써 시기에 따른 변화를 포괄적으로 다루지 못한 기존문헌의 연구 공백을 메움과 동시에 한국영화가 국제공동제작을 통해 직면한 과제와 기회를 파악하였다.

영문 초록

Europe focused on the international co-production as a strategy to preserve the competitiveness of its domestic film industry against the dominance of Hollywood films. This approach offered numerous advantages, such as the sharing of capital and human resources, market expansion, and risk diversification. It represented a strategic decision driven by economic necessity within the global film industry. European film producers secured significant capital through cross-border collaboration and enhanced their position in the global film market by blending diverse cultural elements to create unique and competitive content. In a similar context, Korea, while discussing the establishment of a transnational film organization with Southeast Asian countries, highlighted the importance of international co-production to strengthen its position and maintain competitiveness. However, despite ongoing research on international co-productions, challenges remain in understanding the alignment between Korea and Asian countries in terms of economic necessity and cultural exchange. A detailed examination of how international co-production films strike a balance between economic necessity and cultural exchange is essential. By gaining insights into these aspects, Korean cinema can develop more effective strategies for the global film market. To explore the international co-production films from multiple perspectives, this study utilized news big data to analyze the transition process of international co-production films over the two decades from 2004 to 2024 and identify key implications. This analysis provides a deeper understanding of domestic international co-production films and examines shifts and trends in international relations. By addressing the research gap in existing literature, which often fails to comprehensively capture changes over time, the study supports the expansion of Korean cinema through international co-production, while also identifying the challenges and opportunities ahead.
