국문 초록

본 연구는 개념적 은유 이론을 바탕으로 조형예술에서 비물질적 무게가 시각적으로 형상화되는 방식을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 레이코프와 존슨의 개념적 은유 이론을 중심으로, 비물질적 개념이 물질적 형상과 감각적 경험으로 전환되는 과정을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 비물질적 무게를 사회적, 문화적, 정서적 측면으로 분류하여 조형예술 작품을 분석하였다. 사회적 무게는 사회적 이슈와 권력 구조를 반영하며, 문화적 무게는 문화적 정체성과 전통, 정서적 무게는 개인적 경험과 감정을 탐구한다. 사례 분석 결과, 개념적 은유는 조형예술에서 추상적 개념을 감각적이고 구체적인 형상으로 전환하는 핵심 전략으로 작용하며, 신체화된 경험이 비물질적 무게의 시각적 인지 과정에서 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 비물질적 개념이 조형예술을 통해 감각적이고 물질적인 경험으로 전환되는 예술적 가능성을 제시하며, 개념적 은유를 활용한 새로운 예술 해석 방법론을 제안하였다. 나아가, 조형예술에서 비물질적 개념의 시각화 과정에 대한 이해를 확장하는 데 기여하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze how immaterial weight is visually materialized in sculptural art based on conceptual metaphor theory. Grounded in the conceptual metaphor theory of Lakoff and Johnson, this research investigates the process by which immaterial concepts are transformed into tangible forms and sensory experiences. To achieve this, immaterial weight is categorized into social, cultural, and emotional dimensions, and representative sculptural artworks are analyzed accordingly. Social weight reflects social issues and power structures, while cultural weight explores cultural identity and tradition, and emotional weight conveys personal experiences and emotions. The case study findings confirm that conceptual metaphor serves as a fundamental strategy in sculptural art, enabling the transformation of abstract concepts into concrete, sensory forms. Furthermore, it underscores the role of embodied experience in shaping the visual perception of immaterial weight. This study proposes a new methodological approach to art interpretation by demonstrating how immaterial concepts are translated into tangible and sensory experiences through sculptural art. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the visualization process of immaterial concepts in sculptural representation.
