우리나라 학교수학에서 대푯값과 산포도 지도에 대한 고찰과 개선 방안 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 통계교육의 빅 아이디어에 해당하는 분포(distribution) 개념에 비추어 우리나라 학교수학에서 대푯값과 산포도의 지도가 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지를 비판적으로 고찰하기 위해 수행되었다. 먼저 분포의 중심과 퍼짐을 수치적으로 요약하는 측도로서대푯값과 산포도가 지닌 통계학적 의의를 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 우리나라 학교수학에서 대푯값과 산포도가 분포 개념에 대한이해를 전제하지 않은 상태에서 형식적이고 분절적으로 지도되고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 미국, 영국, 일본, 뉴질랜드의 교육과정과 교과서 사례를 참고하여 (1) 분포의 시각적 표현과의 연결, (2) 분포 비교를 위한 통계적 추리 기회, (3) 대푯값과 산포도의 통합적접근이라는, 대푯값과 산포도 지도의 개선 방향을 도출하였다. 이를 위해 수학과 교육과정의 차원에서 고려해야 할 과제로 데이터의종류와 분포 개념의 명시적 지도, 점그림의 도입, 산포도로서 범위와 사분위범위의 도입 및 중앙값의 조기 지도를 제언한다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to critically analyze how representative values and dispersion measures are taught in the concept of distribution in the Korean school mathematics curriculum. First, we analyze the statistical significance of representative values and dispersion measures as measures that numerically summarize the center and spread of distributions, respectively. Based on this, we found that they are taught in a formal and segmented way in the Korean school mathematics curriculum without understanding the concept of distribution as a big idea of statistics education. By referring to curricula and textbooks from the US, UK, Japan, and New Zealand, we derived some implications for improving the teaching of representative values and dispersion measures, including (1) connections to graphical displays of distributions, (2) opportunities for statistical inference by comparing two data sets, and (3) an integrated approach to representative values and dispersion measures. To this end, we recommend explicit teaching of data types and distribution concepts, introduction of dot plots, introduction of range and interquartile range as dispersion measures, and early teaching of the median.
