원형과 몽상으로 셰이머스 히니의 시 다시 체험하기

국문 초록

히니의 후기 시집 『구역과 원』과 『인간 사슬』은 바슐라르의 『몽상의 시학』에서 나타나는 어린 시절에 관한 몽상과 원형의 이미지와 맞닿아 있다. 우선 히니는 과거의 기억에서 출발하여 추억하고 명상하며 점점 과거로 침잠해 들어가 집단적 무의식이나 원형의 이미지에 도달한다. 그리고는 시적 몽상을 통해 현재를 점점 확대해가고 자유와 행복을 향해 확장하고 상승하는 이미지를 창출한다. 바슐라르는 융의 심리학을 차용하여 원형의 시적 이미지에 고민하고 물, 불, 공기, 흙과 같이 4대 근원 요소로 물질적 상상력을 꿈꾼다. 그리고는 『공간의 시학』과 마지막 저서인 『몽상의 시학』을 통해 집과 같이 친근한 곳에서의 이미지 구현 그리고 어린 시절에 관한 몽상으로 출발해 우주적 이미지로 점점 확대하는 방향성을 띤다. 히니와 바슐라르 모두 생애동안 처음에 있던 곳으로 회귀하는 글쓰기의 여행처럼 보이며 미래의 행복을 꿈꾸는 몽상가의 태도를 취한다.

영문 초록

The paper attempts to associate the reverie for the childhood in Seamus Heaney’s District and Circle and Human Chain with the archetypal images in Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Reverie. Heaney recollects and meditates on his memory of the past and arrives at the “collective unconsciousness,” an original image by forcing a way into the past. Through his poetic reverie, he expands the present and creates the ascending images for freedom and happiness. Bachelard, on the other hand, deals with the archetypal images, deriving from Jung’s psychology and dreams the material imagination of four elements by comparing it with the formal imagination. In The Poetics of Space and The Poetics of Reverie, Bachelard embodies the images of familiar places such as house and stairway, extending the cosmic images from his reverie in childhood. Both seem to return to their origins during their lives and take a stand as dreamer savoring their happiness.
