국문 초록
예이츠는 버클리를 시의 이미지로 사용하여 아일랜드의 낭만적 전통을 부활시키고자 노력했다. 그는 “Blood and Moon”과 “The Seven Sages”에서 휘그주의에 탐닉하고 있는 아일랜드 사람들의 삶을 조롱하면서, 버클리의 유심론을 찬양하고 그를 아일랜드의 현자의 반열에 올려놓았다. 또한 탑은 현실과 꿈, 현실세계와 이상세계, 현재와 과거, 속인과 현자를 연결하는 교차로로 사용되어 아일랜드의 전통의 중요성을 부각시켰다. 이처럼, 그는 꿈과 현실이라는 이원론적 시야로 낭만적 아일랜드를 갈망했을지 모른다.
영문 초록
W. B. Yeats tries to restore the Irish romantic tradition by relying on Berkeley. He mocks the life of Irish people addicted to Whiggery in “Blood and Moon” and “The Seven Sages” while admiring Berkeley’s immaterialism and raising Berkeley to the rank of the Irish sages. His imagery of the tower is a roundabout means to connect actuality and dreaming, this world and an ideal world, the present and the past, laymen and sages. Relying on Berkeleyan idealism and emphasizing the importance of the Irish traditions, he may have wished to restore the romantic Ireland with a dualistic view of a dream and actuality.
