국문 초록

한국노동운동은 경제개발이 본격적으로 추진되던 1970년부터 노동자들은 영등포산업선교회가 주도해 나가면서 시작되었으나, 이때 노동운동은 대개 어용노조의 테두리 안에서 단지 노동자의 기본적인 문제 해결에 그쳤다. 그러다가 1973년부터 이전 노동운동 방식에서 벗어나 실질적인 노동자의 권리와 인권을 위한 민주 노동운동으로 발전하게 되었다. 여성 노동자들의 중심으로 인명진 지도로 전개된 민주 노동운동은 정치뿐 아니라 사회 전반에 걸쳐 큰 변혁을 일으켰다. 먼저 정치적으로 장기간 유지되어 온 박정희 유신 독재정권의 몰락이었다. 이 결과를 이룩한 것은 사회 지도자들이 주도한 민주세력의 저항도 아니고 국민 전체가 참여한 혁명의 힘도 아니었으며, 오로지 경제개발에서 희생되어왔던 사회적으로 가장 낮은 계층인 여성 노동자들이 사람답게 살고자 민주 노동을 펼치며 부조리한 사회에 저항한 그녀들의 몸부림이었다. 그러므로 1978년 박정희 군사정권의 유신독재체제를 붕괴하고 정치의 민주화를 이룩하여 문민 통치시대와 사회정의가 실현되었던 1979년 후반기부터 1980년대는 여성 노동자들의 노동운동을 살피지 않으면 이해할 수 없다.

영문 초록

The Korean labor movement began in earnest in 1970 under the leadership of the Yeongdeungpo Industrial Mission, coinciding with a push for economic development. However, at that time, the labor movement primarily remained within the framework of government-sanctioned unions, addressing only the basic issues faced by workers. Starting in 1973, the movement evolved beyond previous methods to develop into a democratic union movement that focused on workers’ substantive and human rights. This democratic labor movement, spearheaded by female workers, brought about significant changes not only in politics, but also throughout society. First, it led to the downfall of the long-standing Park Chung-hee dictatorship, which had maintained power through the Yushin system. The realization of this outcome was not the result of resistance led by social leaders or the collective effort of the whole nation Rather, it was the struggle of female workers, the most marginalized group in society; who, as victims of economic development, resisted the injustices of society in their pursuit of a dignified life through democratic labor. Therefore, understanding the collapse of the Yushin dictatorship of the Park Chung-hee military regime in 1978 and the subsequent democratization of politics and realization of social justice cannot be achieved without examining the labor movement of female workers from the late 1970s to the 1980s.
