As an important early leader of the Chinese Communist Party, Yun Daiying’s commitment to Marxism was not achieved overnight but was the result of a difficult process of learning, practice, and careful reflection. Initially, the young Yun Daiying was deeply influenced by the then-popular anarchism and attempted to realize his ideal social vision through a moderate and gradual approach of “collective living.” Yun’s trip to Beijing in the spring of 1920 marked a critical turning point in his ideological development, as he began to focus on theoretical explorations of Marxism. However, while accepting certain aspects of Marxist theory, Yun found it difficult to abandon his lingering anarchist dreams. It was his experience translating The Class Struggle, the repeated setbacks in his practice at the Li Qun Bookstore, and the sincere criticism and advice from his mentors and peers that helped Yun move beyond his ideological indecision. By the summer of 1921, Yun had completely broken with anarchism and fully embraced Marxism, thus initiating his exploration of the localization and popularization of Marxism in China. Yun Daiying’s ideological transformation serves as a microcosm of the arduous journey faced by early Chinese communist intellectuals in their quest for truth.

作为中国共产党早期重要领导人，恽代英确立马克思主义信仰并非一蹴即至，而是经历了学习实践、慎思明辨的艰苦历程。起初，青年恽代英曾一度深受风靡一时的无政府主义的影响，试图通过温和渐进的“共同生活”来实现自己理想的社会图景。1920 年春的北京之行为恽代英思想发展的重要节点，至此，他开始重视对马克思主义的理论探索。而恽代英在认可马克思主义的部分观点的同时，依然难以割舍心中的无政府主义迷梦。翻译《阶级争斗》的经历、利群书社实践的屡屡碰壁、良师益友恳切的批评建议则促使恽代英走出彷徨抉择的境地，终在1921 年夏彻底与无政府主义决裂，服膺于马克思主义，至此便开启了马克思主义中国化和大众化的探索历程。恽代英的思想转变是中国早期共产主义知识分子求索真理艰辛历程的缩影。
