국문 초록

이 연구는 한국어 교재에서 제시하고 있는 시각적인 요소의 변화 경향성을 살펴보고 한국어 교재를 개발할 때 시각적인 차원에서 교재가 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구는 다음과 같이 진행하였다. 먼저, 1990년대부터 2010년대까지의 한국어 교육 기관 교재 중 총 59권을 분석 대상으로 삼고 시기별로 구분하여 논의하였다. 제1기(1990년대)와 제2기(1998년-2006년)의 구분 기준은 의사소통 접근 방식을 처음으로 도입한 교재의 출현 시기로 하였다. 제2기와 제3기(2006년-2010년대)의 구분 기준은 기존의 교재와는 차별되게 의사소통 접근 방식에 중점을 둔 교재의 출현 시기로 하였다. 다음으로, 한국어 교재의 시각적인 요소의 변화 경향성을 논의하기 위해 시각 커뮤니케이션 디자인의 이론을 근거로 삼고 이를 이미지 텍스트의 교수법적인 기능과 연관 지어 설명하였다. 마지막으로, 한국어 교재의 시각적인 요소의 경향성을 살펴볼 때 각 기마다 초급부터 고급까지 종적으로 살펴보았을 뿐만 아니라 같은 단계에 있는 교재를 횡적으로 비교하였다. 영상매체에 익숙한 오늘날의 학습자는 시각적인 요소를 더 쉽게 인식하고 받아들이는 경향이 있다. 다른 외국어 교육 영역에서는 이 점에 관심을 두고 멀티미디어 교재나 앱(app)을 활발하게 개발하고 있다. 그렇지만 한국어 교육에서는 이러한 부분이 아직 미진하다. 따라서 이 연구의 논의는 그동안 한국어 교재의 흐름을 시각적인 차원에서 해석함으로써 앞으로 한국어 교육용 멀티미디어 교재나 앱, 평가를 위한 시각 자료 등을 개발할 때 시각 커뮤니케이션 입장에서 교재가 나아가 야 할 방향을 제시하고 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the different trends of visual elements presented in Korean language textbooks and to suggest directions for the development of Korean language textbooks regarding a visual perspective. The study was carried out as follows: First, 59 Korean language textbooks from the 1990s to the 2010s were analyzed and separately discussed by period. The criteria for the first (1990s) and second (1998-2006) classifications were the publication period of the textbook that introduced the communication approach. The criteria for the distinction between the second and third phase (2006-2010s) were the publication of textbooks focused on a communication approach which differed from existing textbooks. Next, to discuss the different trends of visual elements in Korean language textbooks, the theory of visual communication design was explored concerning the instructional function of image text. Finally, not only did the visual elements of Korean language teaching materials range from beginner to advanced, but they were also compared horizontally with textbooks at the same stage. Today's learners, who are familiar with visual media, tend to recognize and accept visual elements more easily. Other foreign language education areas actively produce multimedia textbooks and apps with interest. However, this part is still insufficient in Korean language education. Therefore, this study discusses the flow of Korean language textbooks from the visual perspective and suggests directions for textbooks in visual communication when developing visual materials for multimedia textbooks, apps, and evaluation criteria in the future.
