국문 초록

본고는 乃菴 崔左海의 삶과 학문 속에서 교유관계와 문인집단의 면모, 집체저술의 양상과 五書 체재의 성립 배경을 검토하였다. 최좌해는 성호학파 및 낙론계 인물들과 교유하였고, 그 중 학문적으로 안정복 계열에 가까웠다. 노론 낙론계 내에서는 비중이 크지 않았던 것으로 보인다. 최좌해의 문하에는 17인의 혈연중심적 문인집단이 있었고, 문인들은 강의록으로 최좌해의 유지를 계승하여 경전 주해서를 집체 저술하였다. 『효경』을 중심으로 사서를 결합한 五書를 주장한 이는 최좌해가 유일한데, 그 배경에는 성호학파 인물들 사이에 공유되었던 孝悌觀이 있었다. 이를 조선 유학사상 전례없는 『효경』 중심의 五書 체재로 승화시킨 것이 최좌해와 문인집단이 남긴 업적이다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the life and scholarship of Naean Choi Jahae, focusing on his relationships with fellow scholars and literary groups, the collective authorship of texts, and the establishment of the Five Books(五書) framework. Choi Jahae was associated with the Seongho School and the Naklon, aligning academically closer to An Jeong-bok, though he seemed to have a lesser significance within the Naklon. Under Choi Jahae, there was scholarly circle included a group of 17 kinship-centered literati who collectively authored commentaries on the classics, inheriting and perpetuating Choi Jahae’s teachings through lecture notes. Uniquely advocating for the Five Books framework centered around the Xiao Jing(孝經), Choi Jahae's stance was underpinned by the shared values of filial piety and fraternal duty among the Seongho School scholars. This novel elevation of the Xiao Jing at the heart of the Five Books framework represents an unprecedented achievement in the history of Joseon Confucianism, left by Choi Jahae and his literary group.
