국문 초록

국내에서 다문화 사회가 도래하면서 외국인에 대한 인식은 수용성과 배타성이 이중적으로 나타나고 있는 상황이며, 대중매체를 통해 간접적으로 외국인을 접촉하는 것은 일상적인 다문화 인식에 상당한 영향을 미칠 수가 있다. 이에 다문화 인식에 부정적인 인식이나 갈등을 유발할 수 있는 대중매체의 기능과 정책 지원이 필요한 시점이다. 이러한 문제의식을 중심으로 대중매체를 통한 외국인 접촉이 다문화 인식에 어떠한 효과가 나타나고 있는지 조사 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 인구사회학적 특성 중에서 성별과 연령, 학력, 혼인, 직업 지위에 따라 다문화 인식에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 대중매체를 통한 외국인 접촉의 하위변인에 해당하는 경험과 인식 요인이 다문화 인식에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 대중매체를 통한 외국인 접촉이 다문화 인식에 대해 지역사회 변화와 배타성 그리고 위험성 등의 부정적 인식에 영향을 미치기 때문에 대중매체를 통한 외국인의 부정적인 이슈와 노출을 최소화하는 정책이 필요하다.

영문 초록

In Korea, the perception of foreigners is dualistic with acceptance and exclusivity where a multicultural society has emerged. Indirect contact with foreigners through mass media can have a significant impact on everyday multicultural awareness. Accordingly, it is time to support the functions of mass media and policies that can cause negative conflicts in multicultural awareness. Based on this awareness of the problem, the results of a survey and analysis on the effect of contact with foreigners through mass media on multicultural awareness are as follows. There were differences in multicultural awareness depending on gender, age, education, marital status, and occupational status among sociodemographic characteristics, Gender, age, and experience and awareness factors corresponding to the sub-variables of contact with foreigners through mass media were found to have a significant impact on multicultural awareness. Therefore, such as community change, exclusivity, and risk, a policy is needed to minimize negative issues and exposure of foreigners through the mass media because contact with foreigners through the mass media affects negative perceptions of multiculturalism
