국문 초록

21세기에 들어서 영화는 디지털 기술의 유입으로 완전히 변했다. 필름은 CCD와 DMD로, 필름의 입자(Grain)는 픽셀(Pixel)로, 그리고 현상액은 소프트웨어로 전환되면서, 새천년과 함께 영화의 제작, 배급, 그리고 상영에 이르는 모든 단계가 디지털 방식으로 전환했다. 이 전환이 단순히 기술적인 차원에만 머무는 것은 아니다. 이는 지금까지 ‘영화적인 것’이라고 알려진 것들이 변화하는 근본적이고 본질적인 전환이다. 스티븐 쉬비로는 이러한 변화를 새로운 영화 체계의 등장, 즉 ‘포스트시네마’의 등장을 보여주는 징후로 보았다. 이 새로운 영화체계의 등장을 역사화하고 개념화하기 위한 시도에서 본 논문은 필름의 종언과 포스트시네마 시대로의 전환, 그리고 이 전환의 징후에 관한 논의를 매체사적인 관점에서 논의한다.

영문 초록

Over the last two decades, what we called cinema was thoroughly changed by digital technology. Film was replaced by CCDs, grain with pixels, and chemicals with software. These changes were not simply technical ones, but rather something that, in the Benjaminian sense, was profound to be able to liquidate what had been known as cinema. They have been massive enough to shape the gradual emergence of a different cinematic regime, which Steven Shaviro called a post-cinema movingimage regime, than those which dominated the twentieth century, the film. As one of the attempts to theorise and historicise such a new cinematic regime and its birth, first, this article discusses the fin de siecle pronouncements of film’s death, and secondly, cinema’s transition from celluloid-based moving images to digital moving images. Finally it explores the decay of cinema’s physical reality in the age of digital filmmaking as a symptom of the emergence of the post-cinematic age.
