국문 초록

본 논문은 최근 10여 년간 국내외에서 새로운 영화비평의 형태로 주목받고 있는 ‘오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱’에 관한 제 논의들을 중심으로 오디오비주얼 필름크리틱에 대한 이해를 도모하고 그 유형과 특징을 고찰함과 동시에 국내에서 시도된 오디오비주얼 비평들을 중심으로 학문적 의의 및 가능성을 타진해보고자했다. 오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱은 2000년대부터 시작된 본격적인 디지털 시대의도래, 이로 인한 전통적인 오프라인 영화잡지의 쇠퇴, 온라인 정기간행물들의 성장, 유튜브와 비메오(Vimeo) 등의 동영상 공유 웹사이트의 등장 등과 연관되어빠르게 확산되었다. 이러한 새로운 형태의 영화비평 형식은 오디오비주얼 에세이, 비디오 에세이, 비디오그래픽 크리틱, 무빙 이미지 스터디 등 여러 용어로 불리고 있으며, 그 정의와 방향성에 대해서도 아직은 확고하게 정립된 바 없이 현재에도 논의가 진행 중이다. 오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱은 주관적이고 성찰적인 ‘에세이 영화’에 그 뿌리를두고 2007년 이후부터 본격적으로 등장하는데, 초기에는 영화감독의 작품에 나타나는 특징적인 장면을 묶어 그 감독의 전체 행적을 요약적으로 보여주는 강박적편집의 형태를 취하는 방식에서 시작하여, 최근에는 학문적 전문성을 갖춘 비평으로서의 길을 모색하고 있다. 관련 연구들에 의하면, 학문적 수준의 오디오비주얼 비평은 학문연구 수준의 흥미로운 관점, 논쟁의 범위의 명확성, 증거와 사례에의한 이유 있는 논지, 그리고 논쟁적 구조 제공 등의 요소들을 갖춰야 하며, 이러한 요소들을 기반으로 오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱의 유형을 고찰한 반 덴 버그와키스의 분류를 참조하여 국내 사례인 <오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱: 봉준호의 영화세계>를 분석했다. <오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱: 봉준호의 영화세계>는 총 11편의 개별적인 오디오비주얼 필름 크리틱들로 구성되는데, 씨네필 수준에서 이루어진 대중비평부터 학문적 의의와 가능성을 잠재적으로 지닌 유형까지 다양하게포진되어 있는 것으로 드러났다. 결과적으로는 단순한 형태의 수퍼컷, 매쉬-업을제외한 4편만이 흥미로운 관점 및 증거와 사례 제시 등의 최소한의 요건을 갖추고 있어 비교적 전문적 비평의 유형인 ‘비디오그래픽 분석’에 근접하고 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to understand audio-visual film critique, which has been attracting attention as a form of new film criticism at home and abroad for the last decade. In addition, this study attempted to investigate the academic significance and possibility of audiovisual criticism attempted in Korea. Audiovisual film critiques has spread rapidly in connection with the development of information technology in digital era, resulting in the decline of traditional offline film magazines, the growth of online periodicals, and the emergence of video-sharing websites such as YouTube and Vimeo. This new form of film criticism is called by many terms, such as audiovisual essays, video essays, videographic critiques, moving image studies, and the definition and direction are not yet firmly established. Audiovisual film Critique has been regularized since 2007, rooted in the subjective and reflective nature of the ‘essay film’. It began in the form of compulsory compilation, which summed up the characteristic scenes of a film director’s work and summarized the director’s entire work, and recently seeks to become a critique with academic expertise. According to related studies, academic-level audiovisual criticism should have elements such as interesting perspectives at the research level, clarity of the scope of the argument, reasoned thesis based on evidence and examples, and provision of argumentative structures. Vandenberg and Kiss categorized the types of audiovisual criticism based on the factors described above and we analyzed the Korean case, Audio Visual Film Critique: The World of Bong Joon-ho’s Films, referring to the classification of Vandenberg and Kiss in the latter part of this paper. Audio Visual Film Critique: The World of Bong Joon-ho’s Films consists of 11 individual audiovisual film critiques, ranging from mass criticism at the cinephile level to types that potentially have academic significance and potential. As a result, it has been found that, with the exception of simple supercuts and mash-ups, only four audiovisual critiques approached videographic analysis, a type of relatively professional criticism with an interesting point of view and minimum requirements for evidence and case presentation.
