국문 초록

본 연구는 <비무장지대>(박상호 감독, 1965)에서 나타난 비무장지대에서 어린 아이의 걷기를 통한 감정의 영화적 지도그리기의 사회학적 함의를 고찰하고 영 화의 미학적 성취에 대한 위상을 재고한다. 세미다큐멘터리 형식을 가진 <비무장 지대>는 다음과 같은 것을 재현하고 드러낸다. 우선 비무장지대는 1950년에 한국 전쟁이 발발하고 전투가 지리멸렬해지고 결국 1953년에 휴전하기까지 3년여 동 안 그리고 그 이후 한반도의 분단의 결과를 재현하는 아이러니의 장소이다. 다음 으로 공동경비구역은 비무장지대와 관련된 시대의 감정 구조를 남군과 북군의 수행적 행위로 보여주고 드러내는 일종의 극장의 역할을 한다는 것이다. 이 극장 에서는 진실은 철저히 은폐되고 있음에도 불구하고 분단의 문제가 회담을 통해 해결될 것만 같은 판타지를 지속적으로 생산한다. 본 연구는 비무장지대에 대한 다음과 같은 3차 단계로 이루어진 영상문화연구를 시도한다. 제1차 단계에서는 영상문화와 도시이론의 ‘빈 공간 ’과 ‘걷기’ 개념과 관련된 선행연구들을 살펴본 다. 제2차 단계에서는 역사와 기억 및 감정 그리고 ‘영화적 지도그리기’에 대해 선행연구들을 살펴본다. 제3차 단계에서는 빈 공간의 걷기를 통한 영화적 지도그 리기라는 수행적 발화를 통해 <비무장지대>의 영상미학적 성취를 고찰한다. 요 약하면, <비무장지대>는 국내 분단 상황에 대한 원형적 재현을 시도한 작품일 뿐 만 아니라 공간 중심의 다큐멘터리로서 선구적인 영상예술 미학의 성취를 이룩 한 작품이다.

영문 초록

This study regards the limited closed space shown as a kind of abandoned and ruined city in the semi-documentary the Demilitarized Zone (1965) directed by Park Sang-ho and considers this film a sort of cinematic Cartography through the walking of a child in a kind of empty space. The DMZ(the Demilitarized Zone) is an ironic space produced by the war and division of the Korean Peninsula for two years from the Korean War in 1950 to the ceasefire in 1953, and more than 70 years later. The ironic space is firstly a green space where animals and plants are preserved, and secondly, an area of high-density danger and pollution from abandoned military facilities and waste, and thirdly, kind of panopticon which is filled with staring tensions of the South and the North. It is an ironic 'empty space' as an unattended zone. JSA(the joint security zone) serves as a kind of theater that reveals the emotional ambivalence of people related to the DMZ throughout a theatrical performance of the South and North representatives. But this theater (JSA) almost produces forlorn hope such as vain fantasy that every military conflict and Problems of any sort are easily worked out through talks. This study attempts to study image culture as the third stage for the DMZ like the following. In the first stage, the genre customs and aesthetics of visual arts, semi-documentary, and documentary dramas are considered. And in the second stage, I will conceptualize 'empty space,' 'walking,' and 'cinematic cartography.' In the third stage, I analyze the Demilitarized Zone with 'walking' of 'empty space', explain finally how the film accomplishes a visual aesthetic achievement by 'cinematic cartography'. The Demilitarized Zone is an anti-war film that attempts to represent the archetype of collective memory and cultural identity concerning the DMZ and achieve aesthetics of visual arts with a pioneer position in the spatiality of Korean documentary films.
