국문 초록

본 논문은 2013년부터 10년간의 한국 동아시아연구원과 일본 NPO겐론(言論)의 한일국민상호인식조사의 결과를 토대로 ‘한일 양국 국민은 상대국에서 무엇을 떠올리는가’를 고찰한다. 본 연구는 한일관계의 ‘잃어버린 10년’이라 불릴 만큼 한일 정세가 역사문제 속에 함몰된 지난 10년간의 시기에 분석의 초점을 맞추어 한일 국민의 상호인식을 분석한다. 특히 한일 역사문제와 그 해법에 대한 한일 간 인식의 차이에 주목하여 그 배경에 있는 한국과 일본의 역사 인식의 간극을 조명하며 이는 해방 후 한국의 역사 되새김과 일본의 ‘망각의 전후’를 통해 형성된 뿌리 깊은 것임을 고찰한다. 한편, 본 논문에서는 상호인식의 세대 차이, 상대국에 대한 ‘좋은 인상’의 이유, 대중문화가 견인하는 친밀감과 호감 등을 분석하고, 한일 국민의 응답 속에서 표출되는 상호인식의 특이점과 모순점에 주목하여 한일관계 변화 가능성을 전망한다. 또한 한일관계의 미래를 위해서는 역사 인식의 간극을 직시하고 한일 양국이 함께 이루어낸 역사적인 합의와 성취들을 재평가하며 이를 공론화하는 노력이 필요함을 고찰한다.

영문 초록

This research undertakes an analysis of Korean-Japanese Mutual Perception Survey, drawing from the findings of a ten-year survey conducted by the East Asia Institute and NPO Genron starting in 2013. The study places particular emphasis on the gap in how Korean and Japanese citizens perceive historical issues and their potential resolutions, noting that these differences have solidified through Korean people's obsession with history and the history of oblivion among Japanese people. This paper examines generational gap in the mutual perceptions between South Korea and Japan, while also scrutinizing the influence of popular culture and mutual positive impression. This paper examines peculiarities and contradictions in the mutual perceptions expressed in surveys of Korean and Japanese citizens, aiming to reflect on the potential for changes in the Korea-Japan relationship. Moreover, in order to bridge the profound gap in the perception of historical issues, which stands as the foremost impediment in Korea-Japan relations, it is underscored that a prioritized effort should be made for both nations to reevaluate the historical agreements and accomplishments they have achieved.
