중국의 출산율 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 중국의 저출산 상황을 계기로 중국 사회상황 종합조사(CGSS) 자료에 기반하여 실제 출산과 출산 의향을 결정하는 요인을 분석하였다. 우선 교차 카이제곱 검정으로 출산과 출산 의향에 영향을 미치는 변수 중 소득, 성별, 교육 수준, 거주 지역, 호적 상태 등의 사회·경제적 요인과 남아선호, 가부장적 관념, 모성 욕구 등의 문화적 요인을 식별하였다. 이후 포아송(Poisson) 회귀를 통해 각 변수의 효과를 측정하고 랜덤 포레스트(Random Forest) 모형을 활용하여 성별에 따라 달라지는 소득의 영향에 주목하였다. 분석 결과를 종합하면 우선 높은 소득과 교육 수준은 남녀 모두에서 출산 의향을 감소시켰으나, 여성이 더 큰 영향을 받았다. 경제 발전 수준이 높은 동부 지역 및 도시 거주의 경우 발전 수준이 낮은 지역 및 농촌 거주에 비해 출산 의향이 낮았으며, 전통적 관념에 동의하지 않는 경우 출산 의향이 낮았다. 이러한 결과를 통해 중국 정부 차원의 육아 보조 및 출산 비용 지원 등의 정책으로 여성의 출산 시 부담을 낮추는 것이 필요할 것으로 전망하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the factors determining actual childbirth and intention to give birth, based on Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS). Prior to the analysis, the social features including income, gender, educational level, and regional background was significant with the childbirth, as well as cultural characteristics within patriarchal properties, grandparents' expectations and maternal achievement. Using Poisson regression analysis, the higher income and educational level disrupted the intention for childbirth. Especially, the result of Random Forest model revealed that women had severer effects on both childbirth and intention for birth by income. Meanwhile, the residents in cities and eastern region with higher economic levels than counties and another regions attained lower childbirth. The cases that agreed with traditional idea had higher intention for birth. Based on the results, this study predicts necessity to lighten the burden in process of childbirth, with childbirth subsidies and childcare assistance at the government level.
