한국수화 동시통역 과정에서의 생략현상과 통역방향성과의 관계 연구

국문 초록

연구목적: 이 연구에서는 한국어를 한국수화로 동시통역하는 과정에서 발생하는 생략현상과 통역방향성과의 관련성을 실증적으로 살펴보았다. 연구방법: 국가공인 수화통역사 4명에게 동일한 원문을 동시통역하게 하여 한국어-한국수화 동시통역과 한국수화-한국어 동시통역에서 나타는 생략의 종류와 원인 그리고 방향성과의 연관성을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 한국어-한국수화 동시통역에서 생략은 140회로 한국수화-한국어 동시통역에서의 생략 96회 보다 더 많이 나타났으며 통역사별 차이는 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 한국어-한국수화 동시통역에서 나타난 생략의 유형으로는 ‘세부의미어휘 생략’, ‘간결화’, ‘중복 또는 반복어휘 생략’ 순으로 나타났으며, 한국수화-한국어 동시통역에서는 ‘중복 또는 반복어휘 생략’, ‘간결화’, ‘세부의미어휘생략’ 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 통역시 어려움을 유발하는 요인으로는 ‘대응어가 즉시 안떠오름’과 ‘원문의 내용이 바로 이해 안됨’이 가장 많은 것으로 나타났고 통역방향성별 오류적 생략과 전략적 생략을 분석한 결과 한국어-한국수화 동시통역과 한국수화-한국어 동시통역 모두에서 전략적 생략보다는 오류적 생략이 더 많이 발생한 것으로 분석되었다. 결론: 수화통역의 방향성에 따른 생략의 빈도와 종류에 차이가 나타남을 확인하였으며, 수화통역시 생략을 유발시키는 원인를 알아보았다. 수화 동시통역 과정에서의 생략을 통해 통역방향성과의 관계를 심층 분석함으로써 통역의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인을 밝혀내어 통역의 질적 개선에 필요한 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study examined the relevance between directivity of interpretation and omission phenomena that occur during simultaneous interpretation of Korean language into Korean sign language. Method: In order to find out how various omission phenomena of simultaneous interpretation appear according to directivity of interpretation, this study analyzed the types and causes of omissions that occur during interpretation of Korean language into Korean sign language and interpretation of Korean sign language into Korean language, as well as the relevance with directivity, based on simultaneous interpretation of the same original text by four state registered sign language interpreters. The results of analysis are as follows. Result: First, 140 omissions in sign language interpretation were more than 96 omissions in voice interpretation, and there was no difference among interpreters. Second, types of omissions during sign language interpretation were found in the order of 'omission of detailed vocabularies,' 'simplification' and 'omission of overlapping or repetitive vocabularies.' Third, biggest causes of difficulty in interpretation were 'cannot come up with appropriate word immediately' and 'cannot understand the original text immediately.' Analysis of erroneous omission and strategic omission showed that erroneous omission occurs more often than strategic omission, both during sign language interpretation and voice interpretation. Conclusion: It is confirmed that there is a difference in the frequency and kind of omission according to the direction of sign language interpretation, and the cause of omission in sign language interpretation was examined. By analyzing in depth the relationship between interpreting direction and omission in the sign language simultaneous interpretation process, it can be used as the data necessary for improving the quality of interpretation by identifying the factors that affect the quality of interpretation.
