국제다각화와 타인자본조달비용의 관계에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 유럽재정위기 상황 하에서 한국 다국적기업의 국제다각화가 타인자본조달비용에 미치는 영향을 R&D 강도와의 상호작용 효과를 고려하여 조사하였다. 193개 한국 다국적기업을 대상으로 전 세계적인 진출 외에 개발도상지역, 선진지역, 유럽진출로 FDI를 통한 국제다각화를 구분하여 국제다각화가 유럽재정위기 하에서 타인자본조달비용에 미치는 영향에 대하여 회귀분석을 하였다. 통제변수로 신용평점, 기업규모, 기업연령, 부채비율, 수출비중, R&D강도를 모형에 포함시켜 조사한 결과, 여러 모형에서 기업의 국제다각화가 기업의 타인자본조달비용을 상승시키는 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 유럽지역 진출과 R&D강도의 상호작용변수는 타인자본조달비용의 감소효과를 나타내어 국제다각화와 타인자본조달비용의 관계에서 R&D강도의 부의 조절효과를 발견하였다. 이는 위기 상황하에서 높은 수준의 R&D 투자가 수반된 국제다각화는 타인자본조달시장에서 긍정적으로 평가될 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyses on the effect of international diversification on the cost of debt for 193 Korean MNEs during European sovereign debt crisis considering R&D intensity effect. As control variables such as credit scores, firm size, firm age, leverage, export ratio, and R&D intensity are included in the models of OLS regression. The international diversification variables are used for the developing regions, the advanced regions, European regions, and the countries all around the world. The results show that the international diversification is shown to increase the cost of debt in many models. In contrast with it, higher R&D intensity in conjunction with the operations in European region are shown to decrease the cost of debt. It means R&D negatively moderates the relationship between the international diversification and the cost of debt. It suggests that the international diversification with higher R&D intensity can be regarded as a positive factor in debt financing market.
