국문 초록

본 연구는 노스다코타 주립은행(BND)의 긍정적 영향력을 분석하기위해, 2008년부터 2019년까지 공공은행이 있는 노스다코타 은행과 그 외의 은행의 위험과 성과를 비교, 평가하였다. 본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노스다코타 주에 있는 은행들이 미국의 다른 은행들에 비해 우수한 재무 성과 및 재무 안정성을 확보함을 확인하였다. 둘째, 노스다코타 주에 있는 은행들은 다른 은행들과 비교했을 때 더 안정적인 지분과 자산을 가지고 운영된다. 이는 해당은행이 안정적인 고객을 기반으로 장기적인 관점에서 운영할 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해, 본 연구는 노스다코타 주립 은행이 파트너 은행의 재무 안정성 및 성과, 그리고 지역사회의 안정성에 긍정적인 영향력이 있을 것으로 평가하였다. 또, 본 연구는 노스다코타 공공은행과 같은 지속가능한 금융 기관을 지지한다. 그러나, 선행연구에 의하면, 새로운 은행의 금융 시장 진입은 의도하지 않은 부작용을 유발할 수 있음을 제시하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 기존의 주요 은행의 역할을 재정립하여 상호협력적 경영 방식 채택을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the impact of a public bank on bank risks and performance between 2008 and 2019, with a focus on the Bank of North Dakota (BND) and its influence on partner banks in North Dakota. By categorizing banks into those in the United States and those in North Dakota, we assess their risk and performance outcomes. Our findings show that banks in North Dakota exhibit superior performance compared to other banks in the United States and have more the core deposit. Notably, differences in business vision, management, and strategy exist between North Dakota banks and other banks. It is noteworthy that banks in ND operate with more stable equity and assets when contrasted with other banks. By these findings, we suggest that the stability of banks in ND can be attributed to the positive impact of the public bank on both bank performance and the local community. We endorse the concept of sustainable finance as an emerging financial paradigm. Nevertheless, we also contend that the entry of new banks into the financial market might trigger unintended side effects, as indicated in prior literature on industrial organizations. Consequently, we recommend a reevaluation of the roles played by established major banks and propose the adoption of a more cooperative management approach, rather than an immediate establishment of new banks.
