국문 초록

이 논문은 금융감독위원회가 1998년 8월에 실시한 각 단계별 경영개선조치를 받은 생명보험사 집단들 및 경영개선조치 대상이 아닌 생명보험사 집단 사이에 경영행태에 어떠한 차이가 있는지, 그리고 경영개선조치를 결정하는데 가장 큰 영향을 끼친 변수인 지급여력 비율과 경영행태 사이에 어떤 관계가 있는지를 단변량 분석, Probit 모형 및 희귀분석을 통하여 실증적으로 살펴보고 이로부터 보험회사 경영 및 감독정책에 대한 시사점을 얻는 데 목적이 있다. 실증연구의 결과는 보험업계와 학계의 경험 및 반복적으로 주장하던 바와 대체로 일치한다. 이와 아울러 몇 가지 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This article investigates the differences in managerial behavior between the groups of the Korean life insurers classified by the grades of the corrective actions ordered by the Financial Supervisory Commission in August 1998. It also investigates the relationships between the managerial behavior and the solvency margins which is the most significant variable in deciding the grades of the corrective action. The empirical study of this article uses single variable analysis, Probit analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this article confirm the old wisdom repeatedly claimed by the academic circle and the professionals. This articles also gives some other suggestions for life insurance management and regulation.
