국문 초록

미술비평 교육을 위한 비평적 탐구의 방법은 담론과 분리되지 않는다. 게히건의 비평적 탐구 이론은 펠드먼의 해석 단계의 비평 이론과 유사하다. 이는 둘 다 과학적 탐구의 일반론에 기초하기 때문이다. 펠드먼은 해석에 있어 경험귀납적 추론과 가설 검증을 강조한다. 게히건 역시 탐구의 절차와 논리에 관한 원리인 듀이의 가설연역적 방법론에 의거한다. 비평적 탐구에 가설연역법을 적용할 때 여러 가지 논리적 추론 방법들을 복합적으로 활용할 수 있다. 귀납법이나 귀추법으로 작품의 의미에 관한 어떤 가설을 설정하며, 이 가정으로부터 검증 가능한 결과를 연역한다. 비평적 해석이 타당하려면 탐구의 단계마다 작품 내적 이유나 맥락적 근거에 기초한 논리적 추리가 이뤄져야 한다. 미술비평 교육은 대화와 토론이라는 논리적 담론을 통해 비판적 사고력을 기른다. 이를 위해 학생들은 관찰에 기초한 귀납적 추론, 다양한 경쟁가설들로부터 최선의 가설을 선택하는 귀추적 사고, 가설의 결과를 연역하는 논리를 연습해야 한다.

영문 초록

The Method of critical inquiry for art criticism instruction is not separated from critical discourse. Geahigan s theory of critical inquiry is similar to Feldman s interpretive stage of critical theory, since both are based on the theory of scientific inquiry in general. Feldman had emphasized empirical inductive reasoning and hypothesis testing in interpretation. Geahigan s, too, had been based on Dewey’s stages of inquiry as procedure or logic of inquiry, that is, hypothetical deductive method. When applying it to critical inquiry, various logical inferences can be used in composite ways. If hypotheses about meaning of the problematic work are formulated by induction or abduction, then testable consequence must be appropriately deduced from those suggestions. For a critical interpretation to be valid, appropriate logical reasoning must be made at each stage of inquiry based on reasons within the artwork and by contextual evidences. Art criticism instruction fosters student’s critical thinking through logical discourses of dialogue and discussion. Proper interpretation requires reflective thinking. For this, each student should exercise in inductive reasoning based on observation, abductive thinking in selecting the best hypothesis among various competent hypotheses, and logical thinking in deducing a testable consequence from his own hypothesis.
