이방익의 발자취 고찰

국문 초록

조선시대 제주 출신 무장 이방익은 색다른 경험의 소유자이다. 제주 바다에서 풍랑을 만나 표류하여 청나라 대만부 팽호도에 표착한 후 중국 내륙을 남북으로 종단하여 무사히 귀국했기 때문이다. 그는 자신이 겪은 일을 일기에 담았고, 귀국 후 이를 바탕으로 한글로 쓴 「표해록」과 「표해가」를 남겼다. 이외에도 그의 표류와 중국내 행적에 관한 기록은 정조가 박지원에게 쓰도록 한 「서이방익사」 등이 있다. 본고는 이를 바탕으로 중국 현지를 직접 방문하여 조사하고 고찰한 내용이다. 현지 방문은 2018년부터 2019년까지 총 3차례에 걸쳐 이루어졌다. 본고의 내용은 제1,2차에 걸쳐 현지를 방문한 내용으로 이루어져 있다. 주된 내용은 크게 두 가지로 나뉜다. 하나는 이방익이 방문했던 곳에 대한 고증이고, 다른 하나는 필자가 추적 기행을 통해 새롭게 고찰한 중국의 제신(諸神)에 대한 내용이다. 이를 통해 그가 방문했던 마조묘와 마궁, 관제묘, 자양서원 등의 현재 위치를 확인했으며, 다른 한편으로 마조와 관우, 주희 등이 신으로 추존된 현장에서 중국 종교와 제신의 문제를 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

Lee Bang-ik, an armed man from Jeju during the Joseon Dynasty, is the one who possesses a unique experience; After meeting a storm on the sea of Jeju Island and drifting to arrive on Penghu Island of Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty, he crossed inland China from the north to the south, then returned home safely. He wrote “Pyo Hae-rok(표해록)” and “Pyo Hae-ga(표해가)” in Korean based on his experiences in his diary. Also, there are some records regarding his drifting and his activities in China, such as “Seoleebangiksa(서이방익사),” which King Jeongjo let Park Ji-won write. Based on the information upon it, we visited China in person to investigate and examine the matter. A total of three visits were made from 2018 to 2019. The contents of this book consist of the first and the second visit to the field. The main content is largely divided into two parts. One is a historical research of the place Lee Bang-ik visited, and the other is about the Chinese god, which I reviewed through a follow-up trip. These confirm the current location of the shrine of Mazu, Magong, Guandimiao(관제묘), and Jayangseowon(a memorial hall of Zhu xi) he visited, and also, deal with the matter of Chinese religion and several gods in the place where Mazu, Guan Yu, and Zhu xi were worshiped as gods.
