Service Users’ Perception of Therapeutic Communication in Occupational Therapy

국문 초록

본 연구는 작업치료사의 치료관계 소통모드 사용에 대해 재활치료 서비스 이용자의견해를 수집하고, 서비스 만족도 및 재활동기와의 관계성을 모색하였다. 단면설계 연구로서 편의추출방법을 통해 작업치료서비스를 이용하는 250명의 서비스 이용자를 대상으로설문연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과, 공감모드, 격려모드, 문제해결촉진모드, 협력관계모드, 안내모드, 옹호모드 순으로 모드사용 현황이 수집되었다. 모드사용 수준은 서비스 이용자의 재활동기(p < .05, r = .248~.338) 및 재활서비스 만족도와 (p < .05, r = .398~.602) 경도에서중도의 상관관계를 보였고, 이 중 공감모드가 가장 높은 관계도를 보였다. 이항 로지스틱회귀분석을 통해 이용자의 니즈 충족에 협력관계 모드가, 그리고 재활서비스 만족에 공감모드가 예측요인으로 작용함을 확인했다. 서비스 이용자에 대한 임파워먼트, 니즈충족및 만족스러운 치료연대 확립을 통해, 생활참여 목표를 공유하는 보건의료서비스제공자와서비스이용자의 치료적 관계가 촉진될 것이다.

영문 초록

We conducted this study to explore how service users receiving rehabilitation services perceive their occupational therapists’ use of interpersonal communication modes and to describe their association with, motivation for, and satisfaction with rehabilitation services. As a cross-sectional design, we used a convenient sample of 250 users who were invited to complete a written survey. Service users reported that empathizing mode was seen the most, followed by encouraging, problem-solving, collaborating, instructing, and advocating modes, from therapists. There was a mild to moderate association between the total score of the service users’ motivation for rehabilitation and the therapists’ modes used (p < .05, r = .248 ~.338) and the satisfaction for rehabilitation service (p < .05, r = .398 ~.602), where the empathizing mode was the most highly associated factor. A binary logistic regression analysis revealed that the collaborating mode best predicts whether service users’ needs were met, and the empathizing mode best predicts service users’ satisfaction level regarding rehab services. Fostering a therapeutic relationship between health care service providers and service users for the shared goal of life participation is made possible by creating an empowering, needs-fulfilling, satisfying, and inventive therapeutic alliance.
