わしも知らない は、大正3年(1914)に 中央公論 に発表れた戯曲であ る。 白樺 以外の商業雑誌に作を掲げたのは最初であり、出世作である。 翌年、帝国劇場で上演されているが、これは武者小路実篤の戯曲作品では じめての上演であった。このような作品について未だに研究が行なわれて いないのはなぜなのか。その問いから、本稿では、発表された当時の文芸 批評を探ると同時に、作品を讀み直しながら、大正3年の実篤はどうで あったのかを考察した。 その結果、文芸批評の自評から見れば大正3年の実篤は思想的にどれほ ど懸命にしているのかがわかった。 わしも知らない は、ある意味で、思 想的暗示が強い作品であるともいえる。その思想の中心は人間そのもので あって、すべての人間が調和していく 人道主義でもあった。この時期、 実篤は、白樺派の思想的な支柱となる。つまり、幸福と不幸というもの は、相対性を持つものであるため、万人を苦から救済しなければならない という作者の考えがうかがえる。大正3年の武者小路実篤は、思想面の完 成はなしたというものの、まだ実践への方法を模索していた時期であっ て、後日、 新しき村の 人類的思想への流れは、実に興味深いことであ ろう。

영문 초록

WASHIMO‐SHIRANAI is a play released in “Chuokoron” in 1914. It is the first work published in commercial magazines other than “Shirakaba”, and it is also the work that made him famous. It was staged in 1915 at Teikoku Gekijo (Imperial Theater), which was the first of Mushanokoji Saneatsu’s plays. Despite this important piece of work, it is doubtful why research has not been carried out as yet. Starting from this question, this paper reviewed the literary criticism of the time, and through his work, analyzed what his ideas were like in 1914. As a result, in the critique of literary criticism, Saneatsu in 1914 was found to have been engaged in ideological inquiry. In a sense, WASHIMO‐SHIRANAI is a strong work of ideological implication. The center of that thought focused on human beings, and all human beings were “Humanism” in harmony. This time Saneatsu became the ideological center of “Shirakaba‐ha”. To summarize, because happiness and unhappiness are relative, Saneatsu seemed tothink that we have to rescue everyone from pain. Although Saneatsu in 1914 can be considered to have been completed in terms of ideology, it is still very interesting because the later “Atarashiki‐mura (New Village)” leads to the practice of “Humanism”.
