스마트(SMART) 교육은 국어교육을 스마트(smart)하게 할 수 있는가

국문 초록

이 연구는 정부가 추진하고 있는 스마트(SMART) 교육의 필요성을 생각하고, 그러한 교육의 도입으로 국어교육이 스마트(smart)해질 수 있는지, 스마트한 국어교육이 되기 위해서 어떤 변화가 필요한지에 대하여 논의하였다. 스마트 교육은 개인적 차원에서는 변화하는 정보 기술 사회에서 삶을 살아가는 데 필요한 역량을 길러주는 데, 사회ㆍ국가적 차원에서는 국가 경쟁력을 제고하는 데 필요하며, 학습자의 자기주도성, 흥미, 적성을 고려하고 있다는 점에서 교육적으로도 의미 있는 정책이라고 할 수 있다. 그런데 지금의 국어교육은 학습자들이 교육의 효과성을 체감하지 못하며, '국어'의 틀에 갇혀 스마트하다고 평가하기 어렵다. 스마트한 국어교육이란 학습자들이 언어를 통하여 성장하며, 자신의 성장을 체감할 수 있게 하는 것이다. 스마트 교육이 단지 디지털 기기의 사용과 매체를 활용한 교수ㆍ학습을 증가시키는 데 그치지 않고 국어교육을 스마트하게 하는 데 기여하도록 하기 위해서는 국어교육자들에게 근본적인 관점의 변화가 필요하다. 학습자를 주체로 보고 그들에게 실제적인 언어 경험을 제공하는 것, 문자 중심적인 텍스트관을 확대하여 복합양식적인(multi modal) 텍스트를 다루는 교육에 보다 많은 관심을 기울이는 것이 요구된다. 이러한 근원적인 관점의 변화가 전제되지 않는 한 많은 비용과 노력을 들여 스마트 교육이 도입된다고 하여도 국어교육이 스마트해진다고 보장하기 어렵다.

영문 초록

This study discussed the requirement for the SMART education propelled by the Korean government, whether the introduction of such education may make the Korean language education smart and which changes were required for the smart language education. The SMART learning nurtures the competences to live in the changing information technology society at the individual level, is required to sharpen the national competitiveness at the social and national level and it may be said that the education is meaningful in the aspect of the education in that the education considers the self-directed learning, interest and aptitude of the learner. However, the learner does not feel the effectiveness of the Korean language education and it is difficult to assess smart due to the limit of the 'Korean language'. The smart Korean language education means that the learner grows through the language and feels the growth. The Korean language educators shall change their fundamental viewpoint for the Korean language education to contribute to the smart life beyond simply increasing teaching and learning through smart devices and media. It is required to focus more on providing actual experience by considering the learner as the agent, expanding the text-based viewpoint and dealing with multimodal text. It is difficult to guarantee that the Korean language education would become smart even though the SMART education is introduced with a lot of money and effort without the change in the fundamental ground.
