국문 초록

한국사회에서는 보수와 진보의 대립이 사회계급들보다는 상이한 삶의 경험을 축적한 연령집단 즉 ‘세대’를 중심으로 발생하고 있다. 서구 사회과학자들이 여러 가지 ‘이념’ 지수를 개발하였지만, 한국사회는 그 사회적 맥락이 달라서 적절한 분석 도구를 찾기 힘든 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 기존의 이념 지수들을 분석하여 ‘한국형 정치이념 지수’를 개발할 것이다. 정치이념과 세대의 관계를 탐구하여, 세대 변수가 성별·교육수준·직종 등과 더불어 한국인의 정치이념을 설명하는 핵심 변수임을 밝힐 것이다. 그리고 세대와 정치이념 변수가 활용되는 분야를 소개할 것이다. 세대와 정치이념은 지역 변수와 아울러 한국인의 투표 행동을 결정하는 핵심 요인으로 작용하고 있다.

영문 초록

There is a “generation gap” when it comes to political ideology. Political ideology confrontations exist in accordance with cohorts or generations instead of social classes in Korea. Although the Western social scientists have developed “ideology index,” it is hard to find the optimal index for Koreans on account of different social context. I am going to develop the Korean version of “political ideology index” by analyzing previous inventories in this paper. And, I will also find the determinants of political ideology: sex, education, occupation and their place of origin as well as cohorts or generations. Finally, I will show the applications of the variables of political ideology and generation to analyzing the determinants of voting behavior.
