국문 초록

본 연구에서는 교수중심에서 학습중심으로의 교육패러다임의 변화와 함께 정보혁명으로 인한 멀티미디어 시대가 중등학교 학생들의 학습 욕구와 성향에 큰 변화를 가져오고 있다는 것을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중등 사회과 교과서의 내용 구성에 있어서 시각 자료의 이용현황과 학습자들의 인식 정도를 학교교육현장의 사례를 통해 실증적으로 검토하였다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학교 사회 1 교과서 지리 영역에 수록된 시각 자료는 사회과 타 영역에 수록된 시각 자료에 비해 정량적으로 많이 사용되고 있으며, 이는 지리영역의 교수-학습활동의 효율성을 높이고 있다. 둘째, 학생들의 교과에 대한 인식을 보면, 사회 교과에 대한 흥미도에서 시각 자료가 교과에 대한 흥미를 높이는 역할을 하고 있다. 특히, 공간인식을 바탕으로 하는 지리교과의 경우에는 교과서와 교수-학습활동 전개에 있어서 시각 자료의 활용을 늘리는 것이 바람직하다는 것을 재확인하였다. 셋째, 학생들의 사회교과(지리영역을 포함)에 흥미가 없는 이유는 전달하는 개념과 내용의 복잡성이 학습자의 몰이해를 가져오고 있다. 넷째, 교과서에 수록된 시각자료와 학생들이 선호하는 시각 자료 간에는 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 이러한 실행연구 결과를 통해 앞으로 교과서 개발 지침구성과 집필과정에서 학습자의 인지수준을 고려하고, 자료원의 특성을 가장 잘 반영할 수 있는 선별적인 시각 자료의 구성이 요구된다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed how visual material effects on students’ learning efficiency in the ear of multi-media. The paradigm of education has been changed to that learning is primary rather than teaching. With this matter of fact, the curriculum of social study for middle school students have to be evaluated and developed ceaselessly. We analyzed the present condition of the visual materials in the text book of middle school students’ social study subject statistically through survey for the group of students. At the result of the analysis, we found that geography subject is most prime user of visual materials in social study area and this effects students’ learning efficiency. Students recognize that visual material helps their understanding the subject and it is definitely seen in geography subject more than others of social studies since geography has a background of spatial recognition. Therefore, social study needs to increase the quantity of visual materials especially in geography subject. The students seem to hardly understand the social study subject without visual material such as map, table, and figures. The visual materials in the text book is closely related to students’ preference for the visual method. The visual material has to be developed considering of students’ intellectual standard and composed with the context of the subject as well.
