국문 초록

The House of Hummingbird presents a coming-of-age story set in 1990s Korea, using space not merely as background but as an active agent in visualizing inner emotion and social discourse. Through the lenses of Laura Mulvey’s “male gaze,” Gilles Deleuze’s “affect,” and Henri Lefebvre’s theory of spatial production, the film’s environments—ome, school, playground, city, and the Seongsu Bridge collapse site—reveal the interplay of oppression, affect, and transformation. The film subverts the dominant male gaze by aligning with Eunhee’s feminine perspective, foregrounding solidarity among female characters and reclaiming visual agency. Through affective imagery—silences, micro-expressions, and atmospheric details—the film evokes deep emotional resonance beyond language, positioning space as a container and transmitter of affect. Ultimately, House of Hummingbird shows how space reflects and reshapes personal and social experience. Eunhee’s navigation of each environment marks her internal growth and signals how spatial reappropriation becomes a form of resistance and renewal. The film becomes a contemplative feminist text that affirms the political power of personal memory and lived space.
