국문 초록

본 연구는 학교상담자들의 중도 입국 다문화 학생 상담 경험을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 학교상담자들의 중도 입국 다문화 학생들을 상담하면서 경험하는 어려움 및 이들의 노력과 대처 전략에 대한 경험을 깊이 있게 탐색하고 조망하기 위해 내러티브 연구 방법으로 진행되었다. 연구를 위해 G 광역시에서 중도 입국 다문화 학생 비율이 높은 초⋅중⋅고등학교에 재직 중인 4명의 학교상담자를 연구 참여자로 선정하여 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료를 연구 참여자 개별 내러티브로 제시하였고, 공통으로 나타난 주제에 따라 5개 범주로 구분하였다. 첫째, 중도 입국 다문화 학생을 만나 고군분투하다. 둘째, 언어장벽과 문화적 차이로 소통하기 어렵다. 셋째, 학부모와 협력이 매우 어렵다. 넷째, 이중언어강사와의 관계에서 딜레마를 겪는다. 다섯째, 한계를 극복하기 위해 애쓰지만, 여전히 부족하다. 그리고 그들의 이야기를 다시 이야기하다를 통해 이들의 내러티브를 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 중도 입국 다문화 학생에 대한 실질적인 상담 지원과 효과적인 접근 방법을 마련하기 위한 제안과 함께 이 연구의 한계점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the counseling experiences of school counselors working with immigrant students who entered Korea midway through their schooling. To gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by school counselors, as well as the efforts and coping strategies they employ when working with immigrant students, a narrative research methodology was adopted. Four school counselors working at elementary, middle, and high schools within G Metropolitan City, where a significant number of immigrant students reside, were selected as research participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. Based on the individual narratives and the common themes that emerged across the cases, the analysis was organized into five thematic categories: struggling to support immigrant students, facing difficulties in communication due to language barriers and cultural differences, encountering significant challenges in collaborating with parents, experiencing dilemmas in relationships with bilingual instructors, and making efforts to overcome limitations yet still feeling insufficient. The narrative was analyzed through a retelling of their stories. The study provides practical implications and recommendations for enhancing counseling support and establishing effective approaches to working with immigrant students. The study also discusses its limitations and proposes directions for future research.
