국문 초록

이 연구는 2022 개정 교육과정의 적용 이후 초등학교 1‧2학년 즐거운 생활 교과가 신체활동 중심 교과와 예술활동 중심 교과로 분리되기로 결정된 교육 정책 변화를 배경으로 한다. 이러한 변화 속에서 이 연구는 통합교육과정의 관점에서 제도 수준의 교과 분리와 수업 수준의 통합 실천 간의 긴장을 조율할 수 있는 교육과정적 대안을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 첫째, 초등 통합교과의 역사적 흐름 속에서 제도적 수준의 통합으로서 즐거운 생활 교과가 지닌 통합교과로서의 철학과 실천적 의의를 검토하였다. 둘째, 프로그램 수준에서 개발된 2022 개정 초등 통합교과 교과서의 구조적 특징(주제별, 플랫폼형, 모듈형)을 분석하여, 수업 수준에서의 통합 실천 가능성을 탐색하였다. 마지막으로, 신체활동과 예술활동 중심 교과의 분리 이후에도 기존 즐거운 생활에서 유지할 가치와 교과 분리의 새로운 가치를 모두 취할 수 있는 재구조화 방향을 시론적으로 제안하였다. 이 연구는 교과의 분리를 통합의 한계나 종결로 제한하고 머물기보다 통합의 철학과 실천을 새롭게 갱신할 수 있는 계기로 전환해보고자 한 시도라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study explores a recent policy change in the Korean national elementary curriculum in which the integrated subject Pleasant Life, previously taught in grades 1 and 2, was divided into two new integrated subjects: one centered on physical activity and the other on artistic activity. From the perspective of integrated curriculum, this study aims to propose curricular alternatives that can reconcile the tension between institutional-level subject division and classroom-level integrated teaching practices. To this end, first, the study examines the philosophical and practical significance of Pleasant Life as an institutional-level integrated subject, through a historical review of Korea’s elementary integrated curriculum. Second, it analyzes the structural features of the 2022 revised integrated textbooks—organized by themes, platforms, and modular units—to explore the possibilities for integrated teaching at the classroom level. Lastly, the study offers preliminary suggestions for restructuring that seek to retain the educational values of the original Pleasant Life curriculum while embracing the newly introduced rationale for subject separation. Rather than accepting subject division as the end or limit of integration, this study views the current shift as an opportunity to renew and reimagine the philosophy and practice of integrated curriculum in elementary education.
