유아 교실 속 디지털 사진이 구성하는 다양하고 예측 불가능한 관계와 의미: 행위자-네트워크 이론 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 인문학과 사회과학 분야에서 주목받고 있는 포스트휴먼 사조를 반영한 브루노라투르의 행위자-네트워크 이론을 교육연구에 활용하여 디지털 사진을 둘러싼 유아교실의 다양한 문화들을 관찰하였다. 서울의 만 5세 교실의 다양한 인간행위자들(예: 21명의 유아와 2명의 교사)과 디지털 사진을 비롯한 비인간 행위자들(예: 디지털 카메라, 놀잇감, 교육담론, 부모 인터넷 카페)이 어떻게 네트워크를 형성하고 변화시켜나가는지 문화기술지적 연구방법들(참여관찰, 심층 인터뷰, 사진과 영상수집)을 통해 관찰, 분석하였다. 그 결과, 디지털 사진은 유아교실에서의 적극적인 행위주체성을 가진 행위자로 유아교실의 놀이문화와 교실문화를 변화시키고 있었다. 즉, 디지털 사진은 때론 유아주제놀이의 보상이자, 감시자가 되기도 하고, 유아놀이를 재방문할 수 있는 공간이자 교사의 전문성을 부모에게 증명해야 하는 부담스러운 정치적 공간이 되어 서로 영향을 주고받고 있었다. 이러한 복잡하고 다양하며 예측 불가능한 네트워크들의 사례 분석을 통해 본 연구는 기존의 효과적인 교수매체이자 평가방법으로서의 사진에 대한 기존의 교육담론과 인간 중심적 사유에 대한 한계점을 제시하며, 보다 새롭고 복잡한 이해관계 속에서 형성되어지는 교실/교육문화들의 다양한 목소리들에 집중해야 함을 주장한다. This study traces diverse education and classroom cultures around digital pictures through the lens of actor-network theory by Bruno Latour. I employed ethnographic research methods (participant observations and in-depth interviews) to observe how human actors (i.e., young children and teachers) and nonhuman actors (i.e., digital cameras, digital photos, toys, educational discourse, and parent internet communities) shape and translate their various and complicated networks in South Korean contexts. The study led to the conclusion that as an agentic actor, digital pictures in classrooms actively participate in and change the play and classroom culture. In other words, depending on what digital pictures made their networks with other classroom actors (including human and nonhuman), digital pictures serve as indirect awards for children’s play from teachers in classrooms. Also, digital pictures serve as an infinite space (across time and place) to revisit play and often become a political space to demonstrate teachers’ professionalism to parents. Through a case analysis of complicated and unexpectable networks, this study emphasizes the importance of listening to various different human and nonhuman actors’ voices in classrooms and education cultures, raising the question of whether education discourses on effective tools for learning and teaching sufficiently covers the diverse possibilities of digital photos in early childhood classrooms.
