교육인류학의 연구 대상과 교육기술지

국문 초록

교육인류학은 교육을 연구한다. 교육인류학 연구는 교육을 기술하는 것으로부터 출발한다. 따라서 교육인류학이 하나의 독자적인 학문으로서 정립되기 위해서는 교육기술지란 무엇이며, 교육기술지에는 어떤 내용이 포함되어야 하는지, 또 그것은 어떻게 작성되어야 하는지 등에 관한 체계적인 논의가 이루어져야 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지 한국의 교육인류학계에서는 이와 관련된 논의를 소홀히 했다. 이런 이유에서 본 연구자는 교육을 삶의 형식으로 정의하는 조용환(1999)의 주장을 토대로, 교육기술지가 반드시 포함해야 하는 내용이 무엇이며, 교육인류학 연구자가 그런 내용을 담아서 교육기술지를 작성하기 위해서는 어떤 과제를 추가로 해결해야 하는지를 논의했다. 본 연구자의 논의 결과에 따르면 교육기술지의 핵심은 당사자가 낯선 것을 계기로 삼아서 기존의 문화를 변증법적으로 해석하여 실천하는 과정을 기술하는 것이다. 이때 기존의 문화를 변증법적으로 해석하여 실천한다는 것은, 기존의 문화를 근거로 하여 낯선 것을 해석하여 실천하는 대신 낯선 것에 비추어서 기존의 문화와 성찰적으로 대화함으로써 새로운 문화를 형성해가는 것이다. 그런데 교육인류학 연구자가 이와 같은 삶의 형식으로서의 교육을 기술할 수 있기 위해서는 그것을 연구할 수 있는 고유한 연구 방법이 있어야 한다. 그러나 지금까지 한국의 교육인류학계에는 그와 관련된 연구 방법은 체계적으로 소개되거나 논의된 적이 거의 없다. 따라서 교육인류학이 교육을 연구하고, 그 연구의 출발은 교육을 기술하는 일이라고 한다면, 이제부터라도 그 교육을 기술하는 데 적합한 연구 방법을 새롭게 모색하여 실천해야 할 것이다. 즉 우리 자신이 교육 연구 방법과 관련하여 변증법적인 해석과 실천의 삶을 살아가야 할 것이다. 아울러 다양한 교육의 사례를 기술하고, 그것을 비교문화적으로 검토하여 한국 교육인류학 고유의 교육 이론을 구축해야 할 것이다. 그리고 여기에 필요한 연구 방법을 모색해야 할 것이다. Anthropolgy of education studies education. The study starts from the description of education, which is educography. In order to be established as an independent study, Anthropology of education must go through a systematic discussion about the meaning and elements of description of education. But, until now the Korean Anthropology of Education has not paid enough attention on it. For these reasons, on the basis of Yong-whan Jo's (1999) concept of education, I discussed the elements and task of educography in this paper. The results are as follows: The key of educography is dialectic interpretive and practice on an existing culture. Dialectic interpretive practice is triggered by the unfamiliar to an existing culture. Somebody who is faced with the unfamiliar to his existing culture re-interprets his existing culture on the basis of the unfamiliar. And he constructs new culture to the unfamiliar. That is the process of dialectic and interpretive practice. Educopraphy describes the process. To establish the Anthropology of Education as an independent academic field, we have to build a unique research method to study concrete dialectic interpretive practice of somebody somewhere. But research methods have rarely been introduced or discussed systematically. Anthropologists have to start an investigation for a unique method on Korean Anthropology of Education on dialectic interpretive practice. This means that Korean Anthropologists of Education have to live themselves a dialectic interpretive life. And we have to describe various cases of education and compare them to others to a construct unique theory on education.
