국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학생의 학교경험이 교육격차 해소에 미치는 영향을 사회정서역량 측면에서 주목하였다. 이를 위해 사회정서역량과 학업성취의 초기값과 3년간의 선형 변화를 가정한 잠재성장모형을 설정하였다. 학교경험이 사회정서역량의 초기 수준이나 발달을 매개하여 학업성취 향상에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았으며, 사회경제적 배경에 따라 영향 관계의 차이가 나타나는지 검증하기 위해 다집단분석을 실시하였다. 이를 위해 KCYPS 2018의 초4 코호트 자료를 사용하였으며, 표본은 부모소득을 기준으로 저·중·고소득의 3개 집단으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 사회정서역량의 수준이나 발달은 학업성취 향상에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었으며, 이와 같은 양상은 저소득 집단에서 두드러지게 나타났다. 특히 일부 학교경험은 사회정서역량의 수준을 매개하여 학업성취 향상에 영향을 미치는 데 저소득 집단에서 그 효과가 크게 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 가정의 불리함을 극복할 수 있도록 돕는 학교 교육의 역할을 보여주는 것이며, 학생의 성장과 향후 삶을 위해 이른 시기의 사회·정서적 지원이 중요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study focused on the effect of elementary school students' school experience on bridging the educational gap in terms of social and emotional skills. A potential growth model was established, assuming initial values of social and emotional skills and academic achievement, along with a linear change over three years. The effect of school experience on improving academic achievement was examined by mediating the initial level or degree of change in the development of social and emotional skills, and a multi-group analysis was conducted to verify whether the strength of the relationship between variables differs according to the socioeconomic background. The elementary 4th grade cohort data from KCYPS 2018 were used, and the sample was divided into three groups—low, middle, and high-income— based on parents' income information. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the level and development of social and emotional skills had an effect on the improvement of academic achievement, and this pattern was prominent in the low-income group. In particular, some school experiences improve academic achievement by mediating social and emotional competency, and the effect was significant in the low-income group. These results highlight the role of school education in helping to overcome familial disadvantages and suggest that early social and emotional support is crucial for student growth and future life.
