소규모 초등학교 학부모의 학교 교육 만족 요인에 대한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 학교 교육에 대한 만족도가 높은 소규모 초등학교의 학부모들에 대해 만족 요인이 무엇인지를 살펴보고 학교 교육의 개선에 대한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학부모들의 학교 교육 만족도가 높은 가을초등학교를 대상으로 질적 사례연구를 수행하였고, 가을초의 학부모 6명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 시행하였다. 연구 결과, 연구 참여자들은 소규모 학교의 경쟁적이지 않은 학교 분위기 속에서 자녀가 단단한 자존감을 형성하고, 깊고 넓은 친구 관계를 경험하며 자녀의 인성 및 사회성이 함양되는 모습, 그리고 견제보다는 서로 돕고 협력하는 분위기가 형성되어 있는 소규모 학교 학부모 네트워크의 특징으로 인해 만족감을 느꼈다. 그러나 학생 수의 부족으로 다양한 교육활동이 제한되거나 학부모 참여가 특정 몇몇 학부모를 중심으로 이루어지는 등의 문제점이 제기되기도 하였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학부모 만족감의 심층에는 학교 공동체와 개별 학생의 존재적 의미가 살아있음을 학부모가 느꼈기 때문임을 논의하였고, 이를 바탕으로 학교 교육의 개선에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to examine the factors contributing to high parental satisfaction with school education in small elementary schools and to derive implications for improving school education. To this end, Autumn Elementary School, where parents' satisfaction with school education is high, was selected as a case, and a qualitative case study was conducted with in-depth interviews of six parents from Autumn Elementary School. The results of the study showed that the participants felt satisfied because, within the non-competitive school atmosphere of a small school, their children were able to form strong self-esteem, experience deep and wide friendships, and develop their character and social skills. Additionally, the cooperative and supportive atmosphere of the small school parent network, characterized by mutual assistance rather than rivalry, contributed to their satisfaction. However, issues were also pointed out, such as the limitation of various educational activities due to the small number of students and the involvement of only a few parents in school activities. Based on these findings, the study discussed that the deep-seated satisfaction of parents stems from their perception that the existential significance of both the school community and individual students is upheld. The study also provided implications for the improvement of school education.
