박탈된 애도 상담 경험에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 상담자들이 애도를 박탈당한 내담자와 상담하는 과정에서 어떤 경험을 하는지 드러내고, 박탈된 애도 현상을 심층적으로 이해하기 위해 현상학적 연구 방법으로 수행되었다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 상담자들은 내담자들이 주변의 반응, 가족 규칙, 사회적 기대, 죄책감 등으로 인해 애도의 기회 를 박탈당하거나 스스로 박탈하였다고 이해하였다. 둘째, 내담자들은 애도 박탈의 결과 고립감과 부적절감을 느끼며 대인 관계에서 고립되었다. 상담에서는 상실 대상과 관련된 특정한 에피소드를 반복해서 이야기하고 강렬한 감정을 분출하기도 하였으며, 상실 주제와 애도 반응을 회피하거나 억압하기도 하였다. 셋째, 상담자들은 내담자의 주호소 문제와 박탈된 애도를 연결하고, 상실의 이야기를 재구성하도록 도왔다. 이를 위해 애도 박탈의 맥락을 탐색하며 내담자의 반응에 공감하고 이를 타당화 하며 대인 관계 회복을 격려하였다. 넷째, 상담자들은 처음에는 내담자를 이해하기 어렵기도 하였으나 탐색의 결과 상실 대상과의 관계를 이해하게 되면서 연민과 안쓰러움을 느끼고, 내담자의 변화를 보며 보람도 느꼈다. 또한 애도가 지난한 과정이며, 타인과 애도를 공유하는 것이 필요하다고 생각하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 논의점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted qualitatively to reveal counselors’ experience in counseling clients with disenfranchised grief, and to understand the disenfranchised grief in depth. First, clients were deprived of grief or disenfranchised themselves due to the social expectations, family rules, and a sense of guilt. Second, the clients felt isolated and suffered from interpersonal stress. In sessions, they repeated certain episodes, expressed strong emotions or suppressed the grief. Third, the counselors tried to connect the main issues to the disenfranchised grief and helped the client reconstruct the narratives. For this purpose, they explored the context of disenfranchised grief, validated the various responses, and helped the clients recover their social relationships. Finally, the counselors found it difficult to understand the clients at first, but gradually they felt compassion. They thought grieving is a lengthy process and it need to be shared. The implications on disenfranchised grief counseling and counselor education are discussed.
