사립미술관 교육프로그램의 공공적 역할에 관한 연구 -우민아트센터 교육프로그램을 중심으로-

국문 초록

본 연구는 지역 사립미술관의 현황을 살펴보고, 향후 운영방향과 공공적 역할은 무엇인지를 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위해 우민아트센터의 교육프로그램 사례를 중심으로 분석하였다. 사립미술관은 다양한 문화예술활동을 하고 있으며 미술관으로서 전시뿐 아니라 체험과 교육, 엔터테이먼트 기능까지 갖춘 종합 서비스 역할을 하면서 다각도의 접근을 시도하고 있다. 특히 주목해야 할 것은 비영리 목적의 사립미술관들이 대중문화예술 향유를 위해 지역사회 문화예술의 공공성에 크게 기여한다는 점이다. 미술관의 공공적 역할은 민주적이고 참여적인 장을 형성하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 시민들에게 문화예술향유를 위한 미술관 무료 개방, 참여형 교육프로그램을 기획하여 지역주민센터, 학교, 사회복지시설 등과 연계하여 진행하고 개방형 수장고를 운영하거나 전시뿐 아니라 공연, 음악회 등 다양한 복합 교육 문화 공간이 되어야 한다. 우민아트센터는 충북 청주에 위치한 현대미술관으로 지역 문화예술의 특성과 가능성을 확인하고 내실 있는 활동을 통해 한국 현대미술의 풍부한 확장을 도모하기 위해 노력해왔다. 우민(又民)이 “항상 사람을 사랑하며 사람과 함께 더불어 생활한다” 라는 설립취지에 맞게 지역 문화에 대한 공공적 역할과 창의적 소통을 위해서 매년 초대전과 주제기획전시 및 다수의 교육프로그램을 운영해 오고 있다. 시민을 위한 미술관 무료 개방, 중견 작가지원사업인 우민미술상, 참여형 교육프로그램 AKT, 소외계층을 위한 문화가 있는 날 등 다양한 프로그램 운영함으로써 지역 문화예술의 활성화에 기여하고 있으며 미술관의 공공적 역할에 대한 방향성을 제시하고 있다. 이를 기반으로 사립미술관은 문화예술교육의 거점으로서 기능적 역할과 수행이 필요하며, 더 나아가 한정적 자원을 가진 비슷한 규모의 지역 사립미술관에 미칠 파급효과를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the current status of local private art museums and to find out what the future direction of operation and public roles. For this, the analysis was conducted focusing on the case of educational programs at the Woomin Art Center. Private art museums are engaged in various cultural and artistic activities, as an art museum, they are attempting various approaches while serving as a comprehensive service with experience, education, and entertainment functions as well as exhibitions. Particularly noteworthy is that private art museums for non-profit purposes greatly contribute to the publicity of culture and arts in the community to enjoy popular culture and arts. The public role of art museums is to form a democratic and participatory arena. For this, free art museums and participatory educational programs should be planned to enjoy culture and arts to citizens, linked to local community centers, schools, and social welfare facilities, and open storage or various educational and cultural spaces such as performances and concerts. The Woomin Art Center is a contemporary art museum located in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, and has been striving to confirm the characteristics and potential of local culture and arts and to promote the rich expansion of Korean contemporary art through substantial activities. In line with the purpose of establishing “always loving people and living with them,” Woo-min has been running invitation exhibitions, theme planning exhibitions, and a number of educational programs every year for public roles and creative communication of local culture. It contributes to the revitalization of local culture and arts by operating various programs such as free opening of art galleries for citizens, the Woomin Art Award, a mid-sized artist support project, AKT, and Culture Day for the underprivileged. Based on this, private art museums need to play a functional role and perform as a hub for culture and arts education, Furthermore, they expect a ripple effect on local private art museums of similar size with limited resources.
