노인의 자녀와의 사회적지원 교환 및 갈등이 우울에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 노인의 자녀와의 관계가 우울에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 자녀와 동거하지 않는 독거노인과 노인부부세대의 비교를 중심으로 검토하였다. 독립변수로 사용한 노인의 자녀와의 관계는 사회적지원 교환(수혜 및 제공)과 더불어 지금까지 상대적으로 관심이 부족하였던 자녀와의 갈등이 우울에 미치는 영향을 추가하여 검토하였다. 연구를 위해 분석한 자료는 2017년 노인실태조사 자료이며, 분석대상은 1명 이상의 비동거 자녀가 있는 노인 중 가구구성이 독거 혹은 부부거주인 노인으로 하였다. 자료 분석은 독거노인과 노인부부세대별로 자녀와의 사회적 지원 교환 및 갈등이 우울에 미치는 영향을 다중회귀분석을 통해 검토하였다. 분석과정에서 성별, 연령, 교육수준, 경제수준, 취업여부, 자녀 수, 주관적 건강 변수를 통제변수로 투입하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 독거노인과 노인부부세대에 상관없이 자녀에게 제공하는 사회적지원 및 갈등 경험이 노인의 우울에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것이 확인되었다. 반면, 사회적지원 수혜는 독거노인과 노인부부세대 공통적으로 우울과 관련성을 보이지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 독거 혹은 부부거주와 상관없이 노인이 되어서도 자녀에게 지원을 받기보다 지원을 해 주고 갈등이 없는 조건을 만드는 것이 노년기 우울 관리에 중요함을 보여주는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of social support exchange and conflict between elders and their children on depression of the Korean elders. Relationship with children was used as an independent variable. This variable was investigated with the exchange of social supports (receiving and offering) in addition to the influences of the conflicts with children which have been getting less interests by researchers. This study analyzed single elders and couple household elders who had one or more child who not live together, using Korean Nationwide Elders Data set which obtained in 2017. Multiple regression was used to analyze the data. During the procedure, gender, age, education, job, number of child, self-reported health, were added as control variables. The results showed that providing support to their children and conflict with children were related to the depression score both single and couple household. On the other hand, receiving support from children was not significantly related to the elder’s depression. This research suggested that setting up condition which there would not be conflict with children and providing support to children instead of receiving support are very important factors to reduce depression of elders.
