Effects of Learning Strategies and Achievement Goal Orientations on Knowledge Transfer

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 지식의 전이에 있어서 세 가지 학습전략(인출연습, 노트필기, 다시읽기)의 효과를 탐색하고, 또한 이러한 효과가 학습자의 성취목표지향에 따라 어떻게 달라지는지를 확인하고자 한다. 총 128명의 대학생이 실험에 참여하였으며, 이들은 세 가지 학습 조건에 무작위로 배정되어 특정 주제의 지문을 읽고 조건에 따라 다르게 학습하였다. 학습이 끝난 뒤 추론 문제를 풀도록 하여 학습을 통해 얻은 지식이 새로운 영역에 전이되는지를 확인하였으며, 지식의 전이에 대한 학습의 장기적인 효과를 살펴보기 위해 학습 직후와 일주일 후에 총 두 번에 걸쳐 추론 문제를 풀도록 하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인출연습은 지식의 전이에 있어서 가장 효과적인 학습전략이며, 이는 학습자의 성취목표지향과 상관이 없었다. 둘째, 능력중심 수행접근목표는 노트필기가 지식의 전이에 미치는 효과를 조절하는데, 이는 능력중심 수행접근목표 지향성이 높은 학생이 노트필기를 통해 학습할 때 더 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 뜻한다. 본 연구는 주로 인지적 관점에서 연구되어온 기존의 학습전략 관련 실험 연구가 학습 동기와 같은 비인지적 요소를 함께 고려하여 수행될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The present study aimed to examine the effects of learning strategies including retrieval practice, note-taking, and rereading on transfer, and to explore how those effects would be differentiated by learners achievement goal. A total of 128 university students in South Korea participated in the experiment where the students in three different conditions read the same complex learning materials using different learning strategies and completed the transfer tests twice, immedate test and one-week delayed test. The results are as follows. First, retrieval practice was the most effective learning strategy for the knowledge transfer in the one-week delayed test. Second, the ability-focused performance-approach goal moderated the effects of the note-taking strategy on transfer, meaning that note-taking had a more positive effect for the students with higher ability-focused performance-approach. In sum, the present study confirms that retrieval practice is the most powerful learning strategy, regardless of learners’ achievement goals. The results also suggest that different types of learners achievement goals should be taken into account for future studies on learning.
