국문 초록

본 연구는 사회과 시민교육을 위해 미술을 연계할 것을 제안하며 그 의의와 방법을 탐색한 연구이다. 먼저 사회과와 미술과 교육과정의 변천 탐색을 통해 두 교과는 생각의 표현과 공동체의 안녕 사이의 균형에 관심을 가지고 있음을 파악하였다. 다음으로 미술을 활용한 사회과 시민교육의 의의를 크게 사회 문제 인식으로서의 미술, 사회 문제에 대한 표현으로서의 미술, 사회 참여 행동으로서의 미술로 구분하여 각각 시민교육에서의 활용 가능성을 탐색하였다. 마지막으로 학생들과의 정서적 거리가 지나치게 멀거나 반대로 정서적으로 과도하게 밀착된 수업 소재를 선정하여 미술을 활용한 사회과 시민교육의 방법을 탐색해 보았다. 방법의 일환으로 강대현, 설규주(2014)가 제안한 ‘정서적 공감과 동기화’, ‘인지적 판단과 성찰’, ‘행동으로의 실 천 및 반복’의 단계에 따른 수업을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 학생들로 하여금 사회 문제에 관심을 가지고 참여 행동을 내재화하기 위하여 미술 교육의 역할을 재조명해보았다는 점에 그 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the possible connections between art and social studies to promote citizenship education. First, we explore the cross points by tracing a history of curricular of social studies and art. The results from curriculum analysis says art and social studies have a common interest in expressing individuals’ thoughts and public goods. This result presumes that social studies education can revitalize citizenship education by adopting the characteristics of art to enable people to display personal thoughts and feelings in diverse ways. Artists can portrait social situations and their feelings in their own ways. Also, audiences may get to sense what artists try to say through art works. The process of reading the artworks means more than verbal communication to some students who have weak language skill. Most students will be able to have a wide view on the social situations and begin to get interested in how to resolve the social issues. This may lead students to take an action in real world. This study explores the possible relations between art and social studies in three parts: art as an acknowledgement of social issues, art as a presentation of social issues, art as social participation. In addition, we attempt to create citizenship lesson flows by applying art to social studies based on Kang and Seol(2014). The results reveal possibilities to reach the goal of citizenship that students can understand multiple dimensions of the facts through interpreting art works. In addition, students will be able to accept different values from theirs and live on making a balance with others. This study sheds lights on how art can play a role in educating students to become active citizens. Thus, social studies class in connection with art may open another door toward citizenship education in a current situation.
