인문학 기반의 의료인문학을 위한 하나의 시도 - 경희대 HK+통합의료인문학연구단의 연구활동을 중심으로

국문 초록

1990년대부터 의과대학 중심으로 성장한 전통의료인문학은 좋은 의사 만들기를 목표로 인문학을 분산적으로 활용해 왔다. 연구단은 인문학의 가치를 기반으로 인문학의 융합, 나아가 의료와 융합을 지향하는 통합의료인문학을 정립시키고자 하였다. 그 정립을 위해 생로병사라는 인간의 삶의 과정을 중심으로 문학, 사학, 철학 등 여러 학문 분과의 연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과 영화, 웹툰, 언어 등 다양한 소재를 통해 인문학의 영역을 확장하였다. 의료를 활용해 인문학 그 자체를 심화시키기도 하였다. 하지만 현재에 대한 고찰, 통합을 위한 노력, 의료와 연계는 부족했다. 통합의료인문학은 인문학의 고유한 질문을 의료라는 구체적인 소재를 통해 성찰하고, 그 결과의 활용을 통해 의료와 인문학의 대등한, 균형적, 쌍방향적 미래를 모색할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Since the 1990s, traditional medical humanities in Korea have developed primarily within medical schools, aiming to “cultivate good doctors” by employing humanities in a fragmented manner. In contrast, the Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Institute at Kyung Hee University sought to establish a new academic field called integrated medical humanities, which is grounded in the intrinsic value of the humanities and aspires to integrate both humanities and medicine in a balanced way. The institute conducted research centered on the human life cycle—birth, aging, illness, and death—drawing from literature, history, philosophy, and related disciplines. It also expanded the scope of the humanities by incorporating diverse media such as films and webtoons, as well as linguistic analysis, and deepened the humanistic inquiry itself through the lens of medicine. However, reflection on the present, efforts toward integration, and practical linkage with medical practice remained insufficient. Integrated medical humanities must engage with the fundamental questions of the humanities through the concrete subject matter of medicine, and through the application of such insights, pursue a future in which medicine and the humanities coexist in an equal, balanced, and reciprocal relationship.
