교수자 개인 요인이 강의평가에 미치는 영향: D대학 강의평가 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 고등교육에서 강의평가가 교수자의 실제 강의역량 외에도 개인적 요인에 의해 영향을 받을 수 있다는 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 이에 따라 D대학교의 3개년 강의평가 데이터를 바탕으로 교수자의 성별, 연령, 직위, 전임 여부가 강의평가 점수에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 강의평가 제도의 공정성과 실효성을 진단하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 최근 3개년도 D대학교 강의를 운영한 총 1255명의 강의평가 평균 점수를 정량적 데이터로 활용하여 단순선형회귀분석, 다중선형회귀분석으로 상관관계, ANOVA분석으로 심층 평균을 비교하였다. 또한, 반구조화된 인터뷰를 실시하여 학생의 인식과 선호 요인을 도출하였다. 연구결과: 교수자의 직위와 연령은 강의평가에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났고, 성별과 전임 구분은 강의평가에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 인터뷰 결과 강의평가에 영향을 주는 요인은 연령과 직위였으며 수업 내용과 교수자의 태도, 열정, 소통 역량 등을 중요시하는 것으로 나타났다. 학술적 기여: 본 연구는 강의평가 제도의 공정성을 확보하기 위해 교수자의 배경 요인을 통제해야 한다는 실증적 근거를 제공하였다. 특히, 강의평가 점수의 해석에 있어 구조적 편향 가능성을 진단하고, 강의 개선 환류 체계 고도화를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다. 정량적·정성적 데이터를 병행하여 강의평가 문화의 다차원적 특성을 종합적으로 조망했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study investigates the concern that student course evaluations in higher education may be influenced by instructors’ personal attributes, rather than solely reflecting their teaching competence. Using three years of course evaluation data from D University, the research aims to analyze the impact of instructor gender, age, academic rank, and employment status on evaluation scores, thereby assessing the fairness and effectiveness of the course evaluation system. Methods: Quantitative analysis was conducted using the average course evaluation scores of 1,255 instructors who taught over the past three academic years. Simple and multiple linear regression analyses were employed to examine correlations, and ANOVA was used for in-depth mean comparisons. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore students’ perceptions and the factors influencing their evaluations. Results: The findings indicate that instructors’ academic rank and age significantly affect course evaluation scores, while gender and employment status do not. Interview data further revealed that students consider age and rank influential, and place high value on instructional content, the instructor’s attitude, enthusiasm, and communication skills. Contributions: This study offers empirical evidence that controlling for instructor background variables is essential to ensure fairness in course evaluations. It identifies potential structural bias in interpreting evaluation scores and provides a foundational basis for enhancing feedback mechanisms aimed at improving teaching quality. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative data, the study presents a comprehensive view of the multidimensional nature of the course evaluation culture.
