국문 초록

연구 목적 : Accelerated Christian Education(ACE)이 개발한 School of Tomorrow(SOT) 교육과정은 전 세계 기독교 대안학교와 홈스쿨링에서 폭넓게 사용되어 왔다. 이 교육과정은 기독교홈스쿨러와 선교사 자녀들을 위한 몇 안 되는 기독교 교육과정 자원 중 하나이다. 한국의 일부 기독교 대안학교 역시 SOT를 주 교육과정으로 채택하고 있다. 그러나 특히 한국어권에서 학부모와 교육자들이 교육과정을 선택할 수 있도록 안내할 만한 정보와 학문적 검토는 여전히 부족하다. 이에 본 연구는 SOT 교육과정을 탐구하고, 교사와 학생들이 그것을 어떻게 실행하고 경험하는지를 이해하고자 한다. 연구 방법 및 내용 : 본 연구는 질적 연구 설계를 적용하였으며, 문헌 분석과 함께 ACE 교육과정을 주요 교육과정으로 운영하는 인도네시아의 한 기독교 종교학교에서 현장연구를 실행했다. 교실관찰, 교사와 학생과의 면담, 학교 문서 등을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과 및 제언 : 연구 결과, SOT 교육과정은 성경적으로 통합된 프로그램으로서 신앙과 성품형성에 기여하지만, 기독교적 지식관의 언약적·인격적·실천적 차원을 충분히 구현하는 데에는 한계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 흥미롭게도 교사와 학생들은 교육과정을 실행하고 참여하는 과정에서 주로 나름의 내러티브를 통해 자신의 경험을 해석하고 의미를 부여했다. 또한 SOT가 자기주도 학습을 지향함에도 불구하고, 학생들의 심화 학습과 성장을 위해 수퍼바이저의 역할이 매우 중요한 것으로 드러났다.

영문 초록

Purpose of the Study : The School of Tomorrow (SOT) curriculum, developed by Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), has been widely adopted in Christian schools and homeschooling contexts across various countries. It remains one of the few Christian curriculum resources available for homeschoolers and missionary children. Some Christian schools in Korea have also employed SOT as their primary curriculum. However, there is a notable scarcity of information and scholarly review—particularly in Korean—that could guide Christian parents and educators in making informed curriculum decisions. This study, therefore, seeks to explore the SOT curriculum and examine how it is enacted and experienced by teachers and students. Research Content and Method : This study employed a qualitative research method, combining document analysis with empirical data collected from classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and school documents. The research site was a Christian school in Indonesia where the SOT is the primary curriculum. Conclusion and Suggestions : The findings reveal that while the SOT curriculum is a biblically integrated program that contributes to Christian faith and character formation, it falls short in fully enacting the covenantal, personal, and practical dimensions of a Christian view of knowledge and learning. Interestingly, supervisors and students interpret and make sense of their curricular experiences primarily through narratives. The experience of SOT was compared to a Christian life. Furthermore, although it is designed as a self-directed curriculum, the role of supervisors emerges as pivotal in facilitating students’ deeper learning and sustained academic progress.
