왼손잡이를 위한 대바늘뜨기 교육

국문 초록

이 연구는 2015 개정 교육과정 실과의 ‘대바늘뜨기의 기초’와 ‘대바늘뜨기의 기초뜨기’ 교육 내용에서 효율적인 왼손잡이의 대바늘뜨기 교육을 위한 표준적인 교육 내용을 제시함을 목적으로 하였다. 대바늘뜨기는 2개의 대바늘을 양손에 잡고 주손에 감아 쥔 실과 대바늘이 주된 대바늘뜨기 활동으로 만들어지는 뜨기이므로 표준적인 손잡이에 따른 ‘실과 대바늘을 잡는 방법’은 교육과정에서 기본적으로 다루어져야 하는 교육 내용으로 생각된다. 표준적인 손잡이에 따른 ‘시작코 만들기’ 방법에서 ‘실로 원을 만들며 시작하는 방법’은 10단계, ‘실 사이에 엄지손가락과 집게손가락을 위에서 아래로 넣으며 시작하는 방법’은 13단계이고, ‘대바늘뜨기의 기초뜨기’의 ‘겉뜨기’ 방법은 4단계, ‘안뜨기’ 방법은 4단계, ‘덮어씌우기’ 방법은 5단계이다. 이 방법들은 주손만 다르고, 모든 단계에서 만드는 방법은 같다. 주손은 대바늘을 잡고 있는 반대쪽 손에 비해서 더 정교하고 힘이 필요한 활동 즉, 손에 실을 걸기, 코에 대바늘을 넣기, 대바늘에 실을 감기, 감은 실을 코 사이로 빼내기, 대바늘에서 코 빼기 등의 대바늘의 코를 만드는 주된 활동을 한다. 시작코와 모든 기초뜨기가 만들어지는 방향은 오른(왼)손잡이는 오른쪽(왼손)에서 왼쪽(오른쪽) 즉, 주손에서 반대쪽으로 만들어지고, 오른(왼)손잡이의 대바늘의 끝은 왼쪽(오른쪽) 즉, 주손의 반대쪽을 향하고 있다. 대바늘뜨기 조직도에서 오른손(왼손)잡이는 첫 단의 오른쪽(왼쪽) 첫 코를 첫 코로 해서 왼쪽(오른쪽)으로 읽어야 하며, 대바늘뜨기 ‘겉뜨기’ 코의 바른 모양은 오른손(왼손)잡이의 경우, 코의 오른쪽(왼쪽)이 대바늘의 앞쪽(또는 위)에 있는 차이가 있다. 표준적인 왼손잡이를 위한 대바늘뜨기 교육 내용의 제시는 왼손잡이 학생의 수업에 대한 흥미를 높이고, 의생활 역량을 높여 성취감과 자신감을 높이는 교육적 효과가 기대된다. (예비)교사에게는 주손만큼 효율성과 편안함은 부족하더라도 주손이 아닌 손잡이에 대한 방법의 숙지를 통한 연습으로 시범과 지도 정도의 숙련은 가능하므로 이에 대한 인식의 변화와 노력이 요구된다. 이에 더하여 연구와 교육의 다양화를 통해 이를 접할 기회를 높일 수 있는 교육과정 차원에서의 노력이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to present standard educational content for effective left-handed knitting instruction based on the “Basics of Knitting” and “Basic stitches of Knitting” from the 2015 revised curriculum of practical arts education. Conventional “cast[ing] on” to knitting needles—“the method of starting by making a circle with the yarn”— includes 10 steps. In contrast, “the method of starting by placing the thumb and forefinger between the yarns from top to bottom” consists of 13 steps. According to the “basic stitches of knitting,” the “knit stitch” method involves four steps, the “purl stitch” method also involves four steps, and the “binding off” method comprises five steps. These methods only differ in the dominant hand used, but the process at every step remains the same. The dominant hand is responsible for forming stitches with the knitting needle, which includes threading yarn onto the needle, inserting the knitting needle into the stitch, wrapping yarn around the knitting needle, drawing the wrapped yarn through the stitch, and removing the stitch from the knitting needle. These skills require more precision and strength in the dominant hand compared to the non-dominant hand holding the other knitting needle. An example of adapting standard knitting content for left-handed learners, as explored in this paper, is illustrated in the rest of the explanation. For right-handed(left-handed) knitters, the direction in which the “cast on” and “basic stitches” are made is from right(left) to left(right). This means that they are created from the dominant hand to the opposite side. In the case of right-handed(left-handed) knitters, the tip of the knitting needle is on the left(right) side, which is the opposite side of the dominant hand. In knitting patterns, right-handed(left-handed) knitters read from the first stitch on the right(left) in the first row and towards the left(right). In the case of right-handed(left-handed) knitters, the correct appearance of the “knit stitch” is that the right(left) side of the stitch is at the front (or top) of the knitting needle. Offering standard knitting education content tailored to left-handed individuals is expected to enhance left-handed students’ interest in the class, improve their competencies in making their own clothing, and increase their sense of accomplishment and confidence.
