국문 초록

본 연구는 조선시대 역사지리학에서 산줄기 체계 인식과 표현의 발달과정을 검증하기 위해, 『여지도서』 산천 항목에 기재된 山嶺 내맥 주기에 착안하여 그 내용적 공간적 특성을 고찰한 것이다. 지리지의 발달사 측면에서 보면 『동국여지승람』에서는 군현마다의 ‘점’에 불과하던 산령 기재가 『여지도서』 단계에서 산줄기 내맥 주기를 통해 ‘선’으로 발전하고, 후대에 『산수고』에서 전국을 12종산을 나눈 지역적 체계화, 『산경표』에서의 국가적 체계화 등 ‘면’으로 승화하는 일련의 발달과정에서 『여지도서』도 중요한 역할을 맡고 있었다고 평가된다. 또 『여지도서』는 국가가 편찬을 계획하고 군현마다 거의 동일한 체계로 편집되었는데, 내용상 ‘지역의 시선’이 많이 반영되었던 반면에 『문헌비고』 이후의 지리지는 ‘중앙의 시선’으로 대체되었다. 『여지도서』 산천 항목에서 나타난 내맥 기술은 중앙과 지방 사이의 문화정치를 엿볼 수 있는 부분도 있어서, 『여지도서』가 국가에 의한 국토인식체계 의 재영역화의 과도기 작품임을 방증한다.

영문 초록

This study examined the developmental process of recognition and expression of mountain ridge systems in historical geography of the Joseon Dynasty, focusing on the annotations of mountain ridges in the Sancheonjo section of the “Yeojidoseo” and examinined its content and spatial characteristics. In terms of the developmental history of historical geography, the description of mountain ridges, which was merely a ‘point’ for each county in the “Dongguk Yeoji Seungram,” developed into a ‘line’ through the annotations of mountain ridges in the “Yeojidoseo”, and later, it is evaluated that the “Yeojidoseo” played an important role in the series of developmental processes that sublimated it into a “network” such as the regional systematization of the entire country into 12 simbol mountains in the “Sansugo” and the nationwide systematization in the “Sangyeongpyo.” In addition, the “Yeojidoseo” was planned by the dynasty and compiled with an almost identical system for each county, and while the ‘local gaze’ was largely reflected in the content, the topography books after the “Munheon Bigo” were replaced by the ‘national gaze.’ The description of the mountains in the “Yeojidoseo” also provides a glimpse into the cultural politics between the central and local governments, and thus, “Yeojidoseo” is evidence of a transitional work of the ‘nationalization’ of geographical recognition system of the Joseon Dynasty
