국문 초록

이 연구는 헌종의 후궁 경빈 김씨의 궁호인 順和宮의 장소 변화와 관련 인물을 고찰하였다. 순화궁은 인사동, 미동, 재동 등지에 위치했었으며, 단순한 궁가가 아닌 정치 권력의 변동과 공간 재편을 반영하는 장소로 기능하였다. 이 연구에서는 문헌, 도면, 지도 자료를 종합적으로 활용하여 순화궁의 변화 양상과 관련 인물들의 구체적 관계를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 순화궁은 조선 말기부터 식민지기까지 왕실과 벌열, 근대 정치세력이 중첩된 권력 공간이었음을 밝히고, 장소성의 변화와 지속을 함께 보여주는 사례로서 순화궁의 역사적 의의를 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study examines the spatial transformation of Sunhwagung(順和宮), the royal residence associated with Lady Gyeongbin Kim, a concubine of King Heonjong, and investigates its connections with various historical figures. Originally located in Insadong, Sunhwagung was relocated several times—including to Migeundong and Jaedong—reflecting the shifting nature of political power and its imprint on urban royal spaces. Rather than treating Sunhwagung as a static structure, this research analyzes it as a historically layered space whose meaning evolved through relocations and changing occupants. By utilizing historical texts, maps, and architectural diagrams such as Jaedong Sunhwagung Dohyeong, the study reconstructs the residence’s size, layout, and associated figures over time. Key individuals—including royal family members, political elites, and descendants—occupied or interacted with these spaces, illustrating how Sunhwagung functioned as a site of power transition and continuity. Ultimately, Sunhwagung reveals the interplay between royal authority, elite networks, and urban geography in late Joseon and early colonial Korea. As a case study, it offers insights into the spatial politics of royal households and contributes to future historical-geographical research on Seoul’s palatial and elite residential zones.
