국문 초록

『거제부도』는 대형 병풍에 그려진 회화식 지도로, 그려진 내용으로 볼 때 1862년에서 1871년 사이에 제작된 것으로 추정된다. 당시 행정, 군사와 관련된 최신의 정보가 수록되어 있고, 정교한 필체로 그려진 것으로 보아지방 관아에 소속된 화원이 그린 것으로 볼 수 있다. 민화풍을 가미하면서 고식적 틀에서 탈피한 실용적 성격이 강한 지도로서 가치가 있다. 지도에 재현된 역사지리적 특성으로는 첫째, 거제부 소속의 행정구역이 상세하게 수록되어 있다. 조선후기 면리제가 확립되면서 18세기 이후 거제도는 마을의 분화가 이루어지는데 『거제부도』에는 19세기 중후반 마을의 분화가 반영된 거제도의 모습을 잘 보여주고 있다. 둘째, 고을의 읍치 공간이 세밀하게 묘사되어 당시 존재했던 경관을 재현하고 있다. 다른 군현지도에서 보기 힘들 정도로 대부분의 관아 건물이 그려져 있어서 차후 읍치 공간의 복원에 중요 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 셋째, 군사적 요충지에 해당하는 지역적 특성으로 인해 진보와 같은 군사시설이 상세하게 묘사되어 있다. 당시의 진보뿐만 아니라 혁파된 구진보까지 망라되어 있고 성곽이나 전선, 진보 내의 건물 배치까지 표현되어 있다.

영문 초록

The “Geojebudo” is estimated to have been made between 1862 and 1871, based on the contents drawn on a pictorial map drawn on a large folding screen. It contains the latest information on the administration and military affairs of the time, and because it was drawn in elaborate handwriting, its maker can be seen as a painter belonging to the local government office. It is valuable as a practical map with a folk painting and a strong practical character. The historical and geographical characteristics reproduced on the map are as follows: First, the administrative districts belonging to Geoje prefecture are detailed. After the establishment of the late Joseon Dynasty, the village of Geoje Island has been differentiated since the 18th century. “Geojebudo” shows the appearance of Geoje Island reflecting the differentiation of the village in the middle and late 19th century. Second, the Eupchi(邑治) space of the town is depicted in detail, reproducing the scenery that existed at that time. Third, military facilities such as Jinbo(鎭堡) are described in detail due to the regional characteristics corresponding to military key site, including not only Jinbo of the time but also the reformed old Jinbo, and the layout of buildings within the fortress, front line, and progress.
