Art songs integrate literary meaning with musical language, presenting a unique artistic charm. Beethoven and Liszt, as prominent representatives of the Classical and Romantic periods respectively, each composed an art song based on Goethe’s poem “Joy and Sorrow”, but in distinctly different styles. This paper conducts a comparative study of these two works, focusing on differences in compositional techniques and stylistic expression. The analysis is carried out from multiple perspectives: first, the structural layout of the two songs is examined; second, melodic characteristics are analyzed, including melodic contour and type. Furthermore, the study explores differences in voice leading, harmonic choices, and textural arrangements, delving into harmonic progressions and chord structures. The paper aims to uncover both the commonalities and individualities in technical aspects and emotional expression, and to explore how each piece reflects the unique compositional style of its creator.

영문 초록

艺术歌曲融合文学意蕴与音乐语言，展现出独特的艺术魅力。贝多芬与李斯特，分别作为音乐史上古典主义与浪漫主义时期的杰出代表，均以歌德的同名诗作《欢乐与痛苦》谱写了风格迥异的艺术歌曲。本文围绕这两位作曲家的同名作品展开深入比较研究，细致剖析其在创作技法与风格表达上的差异。文章从多个维度展开分析：首先探讨两首作品在结构布局上的不同，其次分析旋律特征，包括旋律走向与旋律类型等方面的异同；并从声部运用和声选择与织体排列等角度，剖析两首作品在和声选择和声进行及和弦排列等方面的差别。笔者将深入挖掘两部作品在技巧层面与情感表达上的共性与个性，并探讨作品如何体现作曲家的创作风格。
