Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence Referencing Guidelines on College Students’ Self-efficacy

국문 초록

생성형 인공지능(generative AI: GAI)을 대학 교육에 활용하는 것은 학생들의 에세이 작성을 최적화할수 있는 적극적인 방법을 제공하기도 하지만 윤리적 문제에 대한 우려도 수반한다. 대학 수업에서 GAI 사용에 대한 적절한 가이드라인을 설정하는 것은 필수적이지만, GAI 사용 가이드라인이 학생들의 학습과 성과에미치는 영향은 명확하지 않다. 본 연구는 한국의 한 대학에서 6개의 사회과학 강좌를 대상으로 GAI 사용가이드라인의 유무가 학생들의 학습과 성과에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구결과, GAI에 특화된 사용 가이드라인을 제공했을 때 학생들의 에세이 작성 과정이 간소화되고 학업 성과에 대한 자기 평가가 향상되었다. 이는 GAI 사용 가이드라인이 학생들이 시간 효율적인 작업을 수행하는데 도움이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Incorporating generative artificial intelligence (GAI) into higher education not only offers a promising avenue for optimizing students’ essay writing but also carries concerns about ethical issues. Although setting up proper guidelines for GAI use in university classes is essential, the impacts of AI referencing guidelines on student learning and performance remain unclear. An experiment in six social science courses at a South Korean university suggests that, comparing to allowing GAI use with no referencing guidelines, providing AI-specific reference guidelines both streamlines the essay-writing process and boosts overall self-evaluated performance, ensuring that students produce time-efficient academic work.
