국문 초록

본 연구는 개신교인들이 동성애를 죄악이라고 주장하는 목사의 설교를 어떻게 수용하는지, 그리고 성소수자와의 접촉 경험과 목회자에 대한 권위 인식이 이러한 수용 태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 통계분석 결과, 주변에 성소수자 지인이 있는 개신교인들은 동성애 반대 설교를 지지할 가능성이 현저히 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 성소수자와의 개인적 접촉 경험이 추상적 편견이나 고정관념보다 구체적인 인간경험을 통해 이해의 폭을 넓히게 하며, 종교적 맥락 속에서도 중요한 영향을 미친다는 접촉 이론을 지지하는결과이다. 반면, 목사를 영적 권위자로 인식하는 개신교인들은 그렇지 않은 개신교인들에 비해 동성애 반대설교를 지지할 가능성이 높았으며, 자신의 종교만이 유일한 진리와 구원의 길이라고 믿는 배타적 신앙 태도를 가진 신자들 역시 동성애 반대 설교를 강하게 지지하는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 한국 개신교 내성소수자 관련 담론 형성에 신자 개인의 경험적 관계망과 종교적 권위 구조가 복합적으로 작용하고 있음을보여준다. 본 연구는 개신교 공동체 내 다양한 목소리와 입장이 공존하는 현실을 실증적으로 확인하고, 종교와 성소수자 관련 연구를 한국적 맥락에서 확장했다는 학문적 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study examines how Protestant Christians perceive sermons condemning homosexuality as sinful, and analyzes how contact with sexual minorities and perceptions of pastoral authority influence their acceptance of such sermons. Statistical analysis revealed that Protestants with sexual minority acquaintances were significantly less likely to support anti-homosexuality sermons. This finding supports contact theory, which posits that personal interaction with sexual minorities broadens understanding through concrete human experiences rather than abstract prejudices or stereotypes, exerting significant influence even within religious contexts. Conversely, Protestants who view pastors as spiritual authorities were more likely to support anti-homosexuality sermons compared to those who did not. Similarly, believers with exclusive faith attitudes—those who consider their religion the only path to truth and salvation—also demonstrated strong support for anti-homosexuality sermons. These results indicate that both individuals' experiential networks and religious authority structures complexly interact in shaping discourse on sexual minorities within Korean Protestantism. This study empirically confirms the coexistence of diverse voices and positions within Protestant communities and contributes to the academic literature by extending research on religion and sexual minorities within the Korean context.
