Purpose : This study was conducted to identify the mediating effect of digital literacy on the relationship between metacognition and nursing informatics competency among nursing students. Method : The subjects were 155 students from a department in Jinju City, Gyeongsangnam-do, who completed a self-report questionnaire between November 1 and December 31, 2024. Data analysis was performed by Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s post hoc test Pearson’s correlation using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. The mediating effect was examined using Model 4 of the PROCESS macro through multiple regression analysis, and the significance of the mediating effect was tested using bootstrapping. Results : The analysis revealed mean scores of 3.70 for metacognition (range: 1-5), 3.86 for digital literacy (range: 1-5), and 3.56 for nursing informatics competency (range: 1-5). There was a significant positive correlation between nursing informatics competency and metacognition (r=.48, p<.001), as well as between nursing informatics competency and digital literacy (r=.61, p<.001). Bootstrapping analysis confirmed that digital literacy had a statistically significant mediating effect on the relationship between metacognition and nursing informatics competency, with an indirect effect of 0.27 and a 95% confidence interval of [0.17, 0.38]. Conclusion : Therefore, digital literacy was found to have a partial mediating effect. To systematically enhance nursing informatics competency, it is necessary to adopt instructional strategies that integrate both metacognition and digital literacy. This approach could serve as a key educational strategy for improving information-based practice competency among nursing students.
